A new poem

A new poem

Not sure if this is the best way to post this, but I thought I'd run with it for now. Apologies if there is a better way/place to share this on the forums.

Anyway, this is my most recent poem. I've been wrestling with it for quite some time, and have finally decided to release it into the wild. You saw it here first, folks 🙂

It's not really about anything solid, more just a bunch of words and images I threw together. I describe it as "abstract" or maybe "surreal" for want of better terms.

Feedback appreciated

(List nowhere near complete, just some names that came to mind quickly)

The Underneath

The underneath is a simple place

Undisturbed by expectation

There inertia accelerates

In pursuit of a golden silence

A relentless void of scattered screams

Far too dispersed to be heard

An emptiness full of the waves

Of frozen melancholy

This landscape conjures a certain dread

Yet dreams continue in their quest

To install eternal smiles

On the faces of the forgotten

In tribute to the desperation

Driving today into tomorrow

Sense no longer seems essential

Provided the sun still sets

-

Prone to bouts of inspiration

Suffered in response to life

I submit to the ecstasy

That succeeds the saddest laughter

Re: A new poem

Usually self reflective waffle lol @StuF

But somewhere in there is a nugget of truth or help. I have noticed I am the same in person too. I tend to waffle on because I need to verbalise things for them to be remembered. Like I can't tell you most of the things I know just by memory. It's usually because I've spoke them aloud in life at some point.

I have written some articles for a few places but the worst thing is to write for self indulgent purposes (unless its for my own mental health). Writing for a reason or a purpose is good. I love that. Some of my best results at uni came from things that I wrote that I was passionate about.

@StuF

I wrote this very recently

Remember one thing when there is a storm
That if you play
A path can form

Place one thing above the rest
And you'll be sure to pass this test

Only you know the pain you feel
So remember that, to break the wheel

Of constant struggle and gloom
And that impending sense of doom

Too many dark nights of the soul
Will begin to take their toll

So remember this above all
No matter how big or how small

That when the sun sets and rises next day
Within one truth you must stay

The truth is this, remember it well
And so much anguish you can quell

Dream of tomorrow
And you may soon see the end of sorrow

Never crave the approval of others
Crave only the approval of yourself

Re: A new poem

Waffle can be good @MDT ! lol

Reason and purpose can be important, sure. But sometimes that really that boils down to the self. In my experience.

Wish I had gone to uni...in a field that I would have embraced and completed. Too far past that now I feel. Which is ok, but I sometimes wonder 🙂
