Thinking about the future

Thinking about the future

I have a GP appointment next week for a referral to a psychiatrist, I'm hoping he can help me, potentially adjust my medication. I really just want to be able to functional normally again. But in the meantime, what can a single person who is depressed do to keep themselves alive? Mindfulness is something I've been doing to get through the difficult minutes... please let me know your tips and tricks. I want to have an arsenal of strategies up my sleeve. I was thinking of buying some colouring books, apparently that is relaxing.

Thank u x

Just google Outspell for a Scrabble game @Christheart. It's free and no need for any expense. You just play against the computer. I hope you're taking care of yourself! Take care. There are many online games.

Hi @Christheart and others,

I've been suffering with depression recently too. I found a book I'd bought years ago, an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy book. It's called "The Happiness Trap" and it talks about how we have unrealistic expectations for happiness all the time, whereas life is always ups and downs. It's chock full of different strategies as well. I'd called my local mental health crisis line a few weeks ago and the carer suggested I read that book, not knowing I'd already bought it and dug it back out that same week! It was meant to be!

Otherwise I like the advice of scheduling in fun activities so every day has something you enjoy. Even a simple cuppa sitting in the sunshine!

I'm here with you on depression recovery. I've been reading this book, doing fun things and short walks for a few weeks now and feeling so much better; less fatigue and better mood.
