A week from hell

A week from hell

I had been looking for a place since February of this year. Inspection after inspection, clicking the 'submit application' button multiple times. Enquiring about rental properties left and right. Weeks and then months passed.

But finally I had found a property I liked, enquiried, and most of all, they accepted my cat! It was perfect.

Long story short, ended getting the place after inspecting and what not. I was estatic to be finally moving.

But all of that came crashing down once I had moved in, unpacked and organised everything.

I ended up getting sick.

Ended up smelling a fowl musty and damp smell coming from somewhere.

Went to investigate. Turns out there was black mould! Immediately notified the landlord who just said it probably needs to be aired out as the place had been shut 6-8 weeks.

I then thought, 'im not gonna risk my health along with my wellbeing along with my cats health and wellbeing too'.

Ended up throwing everything into a rental van and moved back to the old place.

It was a nightmare trying to move back by myself as I went back to work and started university this week which never happened because I'm dealing with this nightmare almost.

So many tears and screams into my pillow this week. I went back to work today which felt like a breath of fresh air.

I got the bed set up the other day with the motivation and energy I had. But I've come to find myself not wanting to unpack everything, and everything set up as if none of this happened. Not sure if depression is slowly starting to seep in.

Hi @User9670 ,

Welcome to the forums.

It certainly does sound like a 'week from hell'. Moving in itself is traumatic, let alone having to move back into the very place you were getting out of.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. It's such a shame.

I hope you will be able to find a suitable place soon.

Look forward to hearing how you go with it. I'm glad going back to work was somewhat refreshing for you.

I'm sure others on the forums here have rental stories to share too.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I ended moving back to my old place and renewed the lease just for now. I'm just trying to process everything's that happened. I do feel lonely and still upset. Apartment still has things everywhere, many still in bags (as I just literally threw everything in), but it's just hard and I don't even want to unpack.

Trying to focus on finishing this letter to send to landlord about compensation.

That's so tough @User9670 .

For me, if I know I'm not going to be staying long in the current place, I'd probably just live out of suitcases!

On the flip side, I do have to say I admire your strength in being able to be so proactive! I hear it's probably taken its toll on you, so I hope you get some much-deserved rest.

Thank you, I'm trying not to let it get to me but it seems to be seeping in the cracks. It's almost like grief kind of.

The sadness and negative emotions comes in waves.

Re: A week from hell

I think you are quite accurate in saying it seems life grief @User9670 . The loss and feelings surrounding what you have been through definitely align with grief.

I hope you will find comfort in connecting with others on the forums here.
