A Policy Suggestion for a Possible Campaign

A Policy Suggestion for a Possible Campaign

I'm posting to get some feedback on an idea that has been bouncing around in my skullspace for awhile. I'm not sure if this has been done before or it's something that was considered and rejected or if it's a good idea or bad idea or what, so putting it out there to see what the general consensus is on it.

The idea is pretty simple. A mandatory minimum percentage of bulk-billable clients/hours for any psychologist and psychiatrist in Australia.

One of the biggest problems I've seen come up over the last couple of years with people seeking help is the expense. Unless I'm mistaken, every psychiatrist or psychologist in this country has a choice of whether or not they want to bulk-bill a particular client and they have some amount per year or something that they're allowed to do so, but on the whole there's no requirement or minimum and most choose not to.

This seems entirely counter to the professions ostensible goals given that the people who are most vulnerable and in need of help also have a higher likelihood of being unable to afford to get that help.

If this does end up being a good idea, I'd make an effort to pursue it further, but I don't know what I don't know so, help me know?

Was news to me too @TAB

Methinks they need more publicity! (But I get that costs money)

I couldn't find a "share" link for facebook etc. You can "share" your story with the site, but a quick and easy link for social media would be a good idea, in my opinion...

Having said that, I'm going to go back and check again!
