Being on heaps of meds

Being on heaps of meds

Hi i am on 9 different medications a day and i hate it..they always say that its a balance between being drowsy (good) and being suicidal/psychotic (bad).

i dont believe it because i have been on the same meds for years now - including two different antipsychotics.. you are supposed to call this living when everyone says you are tired all the time, and i cant hold down or even get a job because of how doped out i am.

living sux at times

Hi @soppykat ,

Sorry to hear how 'unliving' life is for you at the moment.

Have you gone for a med review? If you have taken the same meds for years, and you don't see any improvement, would it be helpful to revisit your GP/pdoc? It's important they know how you are feeling.

Another option is getting a second opinion from someone else. Surely, meds are not supposed to 'dope' you out to the point of being unable to function effectively?

Hope things get better for you,

tyme

Re: Being on heaps of meds

hi @tyme - all they have done is reduced one of my meds twice in ten years...that is it - i really hope they do something better for me at this meeting on wednesday cause i am just sick of living/just surviving. i also cant get a second opinion because i have to go through the public system so great......

Hi @soppykat ,

Within the public system, you are still entitled to a second opinion. I was also in the public health system for many years, and when I asked for a med review or a second opinion, it was easily arranged.

I'd definitely encourage you to be very open and transparent about how you don't like the state of just surviving - and want to start living! Surely that's not too much to ask.

Wishing you the best,

tyme

I’m on a lot of meds too @soppykat and sometimes it’s a fine line between them working and them not. I’m sure I’d rattle with how many I take.
Wishing you luck with your meds review

Hi @soppykat

That sounds rough and scary....

I've taken many meds previously including like 6 at once

My current Dr says it can be a bit hard then to see what's doing what....

I definitely think speak up and speak out if ur concerned....just my humble opinion

I know what u mean, living and dealing sometimes is painful.

Take care

Hi @soppykat,

Medications can be difficult to deal with and have different effects on different people. It sounds like your side effects cause you some discomfort and challenges at the moment too. I do feel in my experience with my own medications that they give you a baseline to help provide you with an opportunity to work on your recovery.
