Welcome and getting started

Where to now?

Where to now?

Hi. New here as just came across this site. I have a 5 year mental health history with no real therapy or treatment. I am totally lost. Been referred to several organisations who insist on all these intensive assessments. Nothing has ever come from these assessments except a diagnosis - well 6 actually. I have generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, OCD behaviours, BPD, CPTSD, ?? depressive disorder. I had 2 self harm events 2018 that necessitated stints in ICU. Not one appointment came from this even after promises from Dr treating me. I am lost.

Re: Where to now?

Hi @Topcat2000 ,

Welcome to the forums. 💛

I'm so sorry to hear about the lack of treatment and support you have received through the years for your diagnoses, and especially after your times in the ICU. Our mental health can be so incredibly difficult to navigate on our own. I really want to acknowledge your strength and courage in pushing through those difficult times and reaching out here today. I'm wondering what you have been doing to cope since 2018?

I also want to let you know that we have free counsellors you can talk to on the SANE Helpline at 1800 18 7263. They might be a good place to start to begin building your support network, and to find coping strategies and resources. Counsellors were really helpful for me as part of my treatment and recovery.

I hope you find a supportive community here,

cloudcore⛅

Re: Where to now?

Hey @Topcat2000 ,

It's true what @cloudcore has said about our mental health system. It is not easy to navigate it on our own, hence I'm glad you've come here.

I hope you'll be able to find support here.

Unfortunately, your mixed bag of diagnoses (including BPD) makes less people feel able to help you. With a BPD background, from my experience, when many professional hear/see BPD, they tend to send you off on your own merry way. Why? Because:

- it is not a condition that can be 'fixed' with medication

- it takes a LONG time to see results

- there is a lot of risk involved in treating a person with BPD

This could be a reason as to why you don't hear back from many people.

Whatever it is, persist. If you haven't already, begin with your GP who can then refer you to pdocs. BPD is highly treatable (you just need to find the right person!). Medication can someone help with the anxiety and OCD.

There's definitely hope.

Persist, my friend.
