General Advice

My daughter 17 has been suffering with anxiety for some years. After the past year (nursing my palliative mother in our house for 6 months with lung cancer) losing my grandmother 8 weeks later. We then get a new puppy 4 weeks ago to come home and find it drowned in our pool 😭

my husband works fifo (previously 2 weeks on/off) Now just started 28days on/off.
My daughter has gone down hill and I’ve arranged GP appointment and Psychologist appointment and held her in my arms while she cry’s.
my husband responded with - I think she is taking the piss.
this could be in response to he spending time with friends or boyfriend.
I am watching her so very closely and my heart aches for her mental state.
How do I respond to my husband’s response??

Re: General Advice

Hi and welcome, @Marj , it's good to have you here.

I am sorry to hear about your and your daughter's situations 😞

I am not a mother or wife, but I would be taking your daughter's situation very seriously and telling your husband that.

Do you know about the SANE Friends, Family and Carer's Forum? It runs parallel to this one...you might get some good advice by posting on there? Link at the top, under "Peer Support".

A handy forum tip is if you type @ and click on a name in the drop-down box, that person will get a notification and won't miss your reply.

Good luck.

Re: General Advice

Oh @Marj, my heart goes out to you and your daughter. That is a lot of loss in a short space of time, and so much for a young person to deal with. You sound like you're doing all you can to get her support, which is amazing – an appointment with a GP and a psychologist sounds like a really positive step for your daughter.

Your question "how do I respond to my husbands response" is a really valid and somewhat complex question. There is a bit to unpack there in terms of both your relationship with your husband, your daughters relationship with her father, and also how your husband is placed at the moment with his own mental health. Given this, my best advice would be, if you feel comfortable, to reach out to the SANE counsellors for a confidential one on one chat about your specific situation. It's a free service and the counsellors are available via phone, web chat or email from 10am to 10pm Monday to Friday AEST/AEDT, you can reach them by phone on 1800 187 263.

@NatureLover also made a great suggestion, the forums has a dedicated space for family, friends and carers, which you can find here.

If you have questions about how the forums run or need a hand with navigating your way around you can also tag a moderator like this @moderator.

I hope your daughter finds the support she needs with the GP and psychologist, and that you're able to find a way to communicate her needs to your husband in a safe and nurturing way.
