Feeling good about myself

Feeling good about myself

Just putting this out there as the time has passed. I haven’t really had an easy battle with my mental health but looking back I did all I could to stay on top.

1. when I was shopping I had this trolley man guy following me around the shops, everywhere I went there was his face for a duration of about 5 mins making his presence felt. The next day I went back to the shops and he had a deflated look on his face, like he couldn’t do anything about it. That fear mongering didn’t get to me.

2. I went to get an X-ray I was a bit erratic due to change of medication and I thought people would be more accepting but this wasn’t the case, while I was laying down he went past my crotch and made it look accidental as I was sexually touched just a slight touch, but still enough for it to invade my personal space. Afterwards I confronted him and he had this dumbfound lost look on his face.

3. shopping again, a trolley man again, would display acts of micro aggressions towards me, like he would push the trolley towards me and give me an angry look, he Took a photo of me during the time I was shopping and I didn’t do anything. Though the next day I went back and just sat infront of him and he did nothing.

moral of the story people will try and get at you but if you stand up for yourself you will be greeted with a lost look, like they’ve lost something trying to break you. Mind you I haven’t won all the battles faced whilst recovering from my mental health challenges but looking back these actions I took by standing up for myself make me feel good inside now. I feel like I’ve grown as a person and while the actions towards me have gotten a little less hostile it doesn’t bother me as much for that I’m feeling good about myself.

Hey there @Former-Member,

Thanks for sharing your experiences here with us, it's always great to hear when community members feel a sense of empowerment in their mental health journey.

Standing up for ones self, particularly in moments of vulnerability, can be hard. Are you able to step back and see what changed for you in these moments? Are there steps you've taken to ensure that you're better able to create a safe space for yourself and safe boundaries around you?

I’m terrible with boundaries @Former-Member @I try and create them when I think about it, but things are changing and I need to adapt fast. I’m doing psychotherapy sessions hope they help

Re: Feeling good about myself

Morning @Former-Member,

Boundaries can be pretty tricky to implement, it's kind of like developing a self-care muscle, in a way. I'm glad to hear you're getting some support with psychotherapy – I've tried a bunch of different therapeutic modes over the years and found psychotherapy to be the most useful. May you find it to be equally helpful 😊

Hope today is a good one for you.
