I feel like I am going mad

I feel like I am going mad

I feel like I am going mad. Post menopause and no more estrogen and daily heat flashes and body aches and pains, plenty of anxiety and being misunderstood by the gp. I told her I am an anxious person, she said dont be anxious,

I have anxiety with health matters and think the worst case scenario with my aches and pain. I had that panic attack over night and it lasted about 10 hours, still had to take my daugther to her appointments and felt like a zombie, I cant remember parts of that day. I took a NSAID at 2.30am that panic night and I ended up vomiting, on an empty stomach, not good.

I have high trigyclerides, a risk for asthersclerosis, but my husband keeps telling me how bad statins are and are killing people. I have depression and self care is very low, I feel helpless like nothing will ever improve. I am not impressed by any gps at the moment, they are clinical, cold and uncaring, I feel like a number to be processed.

I had a finger infection last September and I had visions of the gp and myself, tyring to figure out how why and what can be done. Barely looked up at me, looked at my finger and put me on antibiotics. I see evertyhing with negative eyes, my self esteem is terrible. My mind is racy and exhausting, at least with a siginificant depression the racy thinking is gone.

Does someone know if taking foods that mimc estrogen is a good idea, I bought edamame and marinated tofu, but the health advice is contradicting, some say yes some say no. I am so tired.

Hey @Dark_Olena

I am so sorry to hear how hard things have been lately. It can be such an exhausting process trying to navigate your way through the health system feeling continually unseen, unheard and misunderstood.

You are so much more than a number to be processed and it can be demoralising to feel that way. I am sure many of us (myself included!) have had experiences that are similar.

When you are feeling do exhausted and low, showing up here and sharing your experience is a form of self-care today and I am so glad that you are able to speak out. We are sitting with you here in this 💛

Take good care of yourself today - whatever that may look like for you at the moment - and know that you deserve to feel respected, understood and cared for.

Kind regards

@Dark_Olena I know what will help with those estrogren levels. I have been having the same trouble there. I read that 2 teaspoon of flaxseed meal can help stabilize it. Works for me. Worth a try!

Re: I feel like I am going mad

Hi @Dark_Olena I agree that menopause can be a very difficult time in our lives.

I’m sure eating foods high in estrógen can benefit us but probably doesn’t make much difference to the hot flushes. I live on broccoli and salmon for years but eventually came to acknowledge the hot flushes as taking a short break in the Bahamas…only way I could cope.

I know that probably doesn’t help but believe me I do hear you loud and clear.

Sitting with you. 💙🤗💙

Re: I feel like I am going mad

Perhaps you feel like I so often do @Dark_Olena – that you have to figure things out for yourself because the professionals aren't responding to you or your situation.

I have no idea regarding food as natural treatments. Keep dietary intake always in mind re triglycerides, and exercise daily – walking, at least, is ideal; and keep your well-being in the forefront of your mind. My recent GP recommended fish 3 times a week, but he said not shellfish as they are not beneficial re triglycerides. No butter, yellow cheese or full fat yoghurt. In the absence of better advice, that's the best I can offer.

I can only send my best wishes @Dark_Olena.

Re: I feel like I am going mad

@Dark_Olena Hearing you about the need to wade through contradictory advice. My approach is to be approximately healthy ... Take for Vit B or D for a bit ... yeah .. lots olive oil .. Go off butter ... then go back on cos son & bro were often on keto ... and there is a variety points of view ... I figured if I did not obssess over any of it and adopt a generally healthy attitude and life style, it would be good enuff.

Hang on and getting through the hot flush period helps .... Its been ages since I have "seen" you.

Take Care

Re: I feel like I am going mad

Hi there! A few years ago I was treated for estrogen positive breast cancer, therefore estrogen had to blocked from working in my body, the effects were similar on me to what you have mentioned. The medication I had to take to block the estrogen was not going to be effective if I stayed on the antidepressant I was on at that time, however there was another antidepressant that was recommended to counter the side effects of blocking my hormones/bringing on menopause in effect, so that was excellent for me & it worked REALLY well, I can honestly say that menopause has been close to symptom free for me thanks to this antidepressant. I cannot ever take hormone replacement, so this antidepressant has helped a lot for that side of things. I know we cannot use certain words on this forum, so maybe I can say it starts with'V'. It sounds like you need a new GP, the right GP is so important.
