Something’s not right

Do I just need someone to talk to?

Do I just need someone to talk to?

I have really been struggling lately.

Nothing seems to help. None of the perspectives that you hear make me feel any better. You either hear clichés, or people talking about how they've been struggling with the same thing. It's great to know I'm not alone sometimes, but that's not what I need to hear.

Someone told me that they're in their fifties, and they're struggling with the same thing. Could I really be in for another 24 years of pain?

Why is it, every time something terrible happens, everyone tells you the worst thing that ever happened to them, as though that makes it easier?

I only ever speak to my doctor about my struggles. I haven't spoken to her since... let me check... February 1. Six weeks ago. My next appointment with her isn't for eleven days.

At one point she went on leave, and then I contracted COVID-19.

Am I just going crazy BECAUSE it's been so long without any guidance?

If so, that's mildly reassuring... I really wish I had a support network. That's the whole problem, I guess.

Hey @florencefifty,

I'm sorry to hear finding hope has been hard. Imaging that we could have the same struggles decades later is a really depressing feeling. I guess everyone's journey is unique and we can never know what ours might look like. It sounds like you're not hearing what you need. Do you know what has been helpful or made you feel hopeful in the past?

Being alone and not having that support network to bounce off your thoughts and experiences can definitely make us feel worse and overwhelmed with the journey.

Personally, I find it really helpful to speak a counsellor, or someone with their own mental health challenges, just for some guidance and reassurance. The self doubt is too real. You can always do this by calling our Help Centre (1800 187 263) or connecting with one of our Peer support workers by clicking here.

See you around,

Sphinxly 🧡

@florencefifty

What is the guidance you looking for? Does it only exist in your doctors head?

People relate their own experiences as a way to try to say that they understand the pain you are going through and that they made it out. We know this is not the best way of helping, but its just what we do by default, we try to relate.

Hello

I see your post and would like to thank you for sharing. I too, often wonder why we seek out to share our stories as a means to comfort one another.

but here I am.
it was nice to see that another person had that thought.
thank you for this post.
