Don’t want to ask for help

Don’t want to ask for help

Hi All

i feel so sorry for everyone who is going through the terrors and fear of war and natural disasters and I’m grateful that I’m safe. There is not but.
i don’t feel I should be talking to people about my past or problems with the current situation because I’m not affected. Not this time. Not for now. I just feel that others would need the help now and that I’ve had my more than fair share. It does make me feel sick though.

Re: Don’t want to ask for help

@petrichor being there for each other is what this forum is all about 😊 The beauty of being one big community is that the support isn't finite – there is plenty of care and kindness to go around.

I'm feeling it too atm re. what's happening in the Ukraine, and now the natural disasters close to home. But please never feel like there is only so many pieces of the pie to go around and that you've taken yours. It's all pie all day over here!

Also going to tag you in this thread started by @Daisydreamer because it might help to feel you're not alone in the sentiments you've shared here today.

Re: Don’t want to ask for help

@petrichor

I often feel guilty about taking up mental health supports, both formal ones such as appointments, and informal ones like talking with friends. But I have learn that asking for support doesn't mean that others are missing out. Problems both past and current don't go away just because others issues like natural disaster seem to have a more pressing need. And one of the beautiful things about the forum is how much people can gain from supporting others and sharing stories. If you post about things that are affecting you, chances are that others will have experienced similiar and be glad you shared your thoughts and feelings on the topic. And when they reply with support and comments that also helps them feel better about themselves too. I have noticed you have been really active supporting others on the forums too which is great. Do you feel good when you help others? Don't forget that you can't pour from an empty cup - take care of yourself too.

It can be tricky to predict how we get affected. Been moving in phases for me. It's nice to see your words up and about.

Re: Don’t want to ask for help

Hi @Former-Member

I like pie days 🙂

I would just like for people to be happy and to get the help they need. I started seeing it more during covid that there are definitely not enough pies to go around re professional support. I often thought how lucky I am that I have professional support. I’m worried that people don’t know how to cope. I know things have improved and they have covid help lines, but we’ve had the bushfires, floods, … now war in the Ukraine. Where does it end?

I will try to write more another day. I don’t often have days where I can concentrate properly and I’m tired now.

Thank you Rhye & thanks everyone else, I will try to write back soon.

Hi @Former-Member

I don’t know how to contact anyone apart through the forum, so I use this old post. There was a recent post that I read and think you replied to and while I was writing my response, something that was meant to give hope and support, the original post from the other member disappeared. I don’t know what to do now. I haven’t seen a post before that so closely matches my own experience and I thought it was very important. I really hope that person finds the help they need. Sorry if this is not ok to contact you this way.

Re: Don’t want to ask for help

Hey there @petrichor,

I'm glad you found me here 😊 I think what may have occurred (if it was a post that was up this morning) is that the post needed to be removed as it broke the community guidelines around safety – it depicted a scene which could be quite triggering.

Many apologies if the post actually resonated with you and that you were keen to reach out to the member. You of course are free to write your own post with your experiences and share that here in the community, if you feel it might help.

Just a quick tip, if you ever need to reach out to the forums team in the future you can always send us an email: team@saneforums.org

Re: Don’t want to ask for help

Hi @Former-Member

thank you for your response. I feel really flat now. I’ll take a break and have a think later about what I want to do. I’m glad you were there when they needed support. Take care x

You're most welcome @petrichor. I'm really sorry to hear it's made you feel flat, and I can also understand that. Please take the time you need to process, and if you require any extra help or would like to chat through things don't hesitate to get back in touch.
