I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

I honestly it will help with a lot of peoples mental health and the systems we create. And, not just Marxist-material-synthesis or Smith/Keynes-currency-synthesis but Hegellian-historical-synthesis. I've been keeping my eye on a bunch of political channels and there's been a shift on both sides of the "political horseshoe". Putin's team was playing both sides (because, of course they were) but now both sides are coming together.

Both sides? Basically all sides. History is bringing us together. If/when we get through this, I'm really excited about what's next. Sooner we squeeze them out the better. We can give up old fights and find new ways. Go Ukraine. Go Russian peace-movement. Go world. Go everyone. Let's go.

@wellwellwellnez
I feel like once covid dissipates mostly, the ukraine crisis stems out (whatever that results in) and monsoons go and we reach winter in Aus.... its almost like we are more resilient as a species

Thanks for taking the bait @Appleblossom .

I found out a bit ago. I found out that Marx's thing is the materialist spin on Hegel's thing. Hegel was about the evolution of ideas and Marx was about the evolution of material conditions.

Marx had a critique that ideas need material conditions (like schools, thinking time, communication and what-not (But, of course, you still need evolving ideas to comprise such what-nots)). Anyhoo, Marx despite his critique, still bases a lot of his stuff on the synthesis model.

It goes.....

Current ideas ("Thesis") + New ideas ("Antithesis") = (conflict ..... and eventually) "SYNTHESIS".

So synthesis becomes the next thesis. Rinse repeat. There's your history of ideas. By my account we've been getting more polarized over the past few decades and I think a synthesis is due. But what synthesis? There's a lot to synthesize.

Agreed @MDT . Resilience seems to trending. I've also noticed trending in leadership and responsibility. I'm being optimistic but maybe good ideas are starting to regroup and bad ideas are starting to scatter.

Re: I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

I get that bit @wellwellwellnez Read a fair bit of Marx at uni, 40 years ago. Dropped philosophy cos of lousy lecturer at snooty tooty uni. Only read a little Hegel ... not much beyond his master/slave dialectic ... enough to understand ...marx's reaction ...

it is part of why I raise the issue of false binaries ...

Some of my earliest posts... on this forum (7 years ago ... edited from typo which said 97!) were asking for ... some Socratic dialogue

Re: I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

hmmmm. The dialectic is kind of inherently Socratic. Socrates might be a better focus as Hegel lived during colonial times and has some very problematic statements on his record. It taints the good he was trying to do in serious and often ironic ways.

Re: I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

I've been thinking for a bit that Marx and Marxist's have been too harsh when it comes to factoring out ideas. I'm kind of an "ideas person" and I also think ideas are also material conditions.

Just had a knew thought (an obvious one). Why not just synthesize? (super-obvious).

Re: I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

I think as time has gone by I've become a libertarian (socially speaking, not economically) and I agree with the Marxist analysis of capital in the 21st Century. But not the earlier centuries.
Look up "techbro" - I think the concentration of ownership over the means of communication (Internet mainly) in the hands of a few private companies (twitter, fb, et al) is AS detrimental to societal health as the government owning the factors of production.

I don't agree with the Marxist solution - revolution (instantaneous or slow) because they have been saying for nearly 100 years that we are in the later stage of capitalism..... if you ask me then I think Capitalism doesn't work in stages.
So much of the terminology around Marxist analysis is time and context dependent (making it as unreliable as religious claims from supposedly holy texts are).

the way I see it is that we are products of nature AND nurture. The Nature part is 50% of each parent (25% of us is father, 25% of us is mother) and the other 50% is society.
Epochal times

Re: I'm excited about SYNTHESIS.

@MDT techbro ... yep ...

I could not get completely on board with the marxist dealio ... found Frankfurt School more relevant... never though of self as Marxist but have an ex brother in law ... who was a lecturer in Marxist Economics . . for 30 years ...in a top international school ... for what that's worth!

I have a few ideas sides and a few practical sides ... @wellwellwellnez I must be almost round ....lol

Synthesis is often a great approach ...

I used to be focussed on .... bridging ... bridging gaps ...in understanding between people ...
