Flood fears

Flood fears

Hi to anyone in the areas in Qld or NSW that are experiencing or about to experience flooding,

I am sure the community here at SANE forums are thinking of you and hope everyone stays safe.

It can be a very anxious time during such a disaster. We worry about what may happen for ourselves, family, friends & community. Many of us have experiences of previous flooding events and may be concerned about the damage and loss that could happen again.

Although I am not physically affected by flooding of my home, my anxiety is triggered. It is worsened by the constant loud noise of the rain. I am following the advice to stay at home, though I feel guilty that I am not helping those who are evacuating their possessions to higher ground like I did in previous flood events. I worried when suddenly a leak appeared and feared that it could mean my ceiling could collapse, but didn't want to ask for help with it as there are probably many with more critical storm damage. I have a relative who is a member of SES and I am worried about his safety as he goes out to help others.

Sending calm thoughts to everyone that needs them. Stay safe.

And if you are in affected areas of SE Qld and want support to help you connect to financial support, housing help or emotional support related to the floods - you can call the Community Recovery hotline 1800 173 349 or online www.qld.gov.au/communityrecovery

Re: Flood fears

Hi @CrazyChick and thank you for making this post- sending my thoughts to all those impacted by storms, rain and flooding across Australia at the moment.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have been impacted by floods in the past, and can understand why that would bring up so much fear and anxiety for you and your family at the moment. As someone who has also been effected by natural disasters in past, I know my anxiety goes up with events such as these- sitting with you and here if you want someone to talk it through with

What things have you been doing for you to cope with the stress at the moment as we experience storms and heavy rainfall? Is there anything you have found helpful?

Thank you for sharing resources too, I am sure there are many people here who really appreciate and value the resources you have shared

Take care and thinking of you and your family today
