Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Hey all! I decided to kick start a sweet little space for us to gather and talk ADHD!!

You can read the Topic Tuesday discussion (at which I was a guest) here.

Some of my go to resources:

ADDitude - Online Magazine/resource for all things ADHD

Three Pillars - My preference for explaining the experience of ADHD without relying on the DSM-V (scroll to bottom and work your way up the list)

How to ADHD - A Youtube channel with tips, tricks, strategies, how to guides, life hacks, you name it

Russel Barkley - a world renowned psychiatrist who has been at the forefront of research into ADHD, its neurochemical markers, and its impacts on daily experience, particularly in regards to executive dysfunction. The link is to an hour-long video aimed at parents of kids with ADHD. He also has one for adults with ADHD (with actionable tips!).

This is a space to talk about your experiences, struggles, strategies, and just an all-round safe spot to be a big pile of chaotic energy right here!!

@Oaktree That cheese puzzle looks a little bit unsolved to me. 😁

@MJG017

@creative_writer Do you have the enhanced sense of smell and weirdness with the feeling of Synthetic textures?

Nylon puts my teeth on edge. I can’t touch Polyester sheets or furnishings covered in microfibre.

I’m ok with microfibre cleaning cloths. I guess because I like cleaning 🤷🏼‍♀️?

My clothes, socks 🧦 sheets, towels have to be flax, cotton, hemp, wool.

I’m fine with natural fibre fabrics ✅

@Jynx @MJG017 @Shaz51 @Oaktree

Do any of you have a smell or texture thing?

@Glisten

I get that with gristly or chewy meat. Its probably why most meat I eat is minced beef or chicken breast... or burgers.

@GlistenI dont really have an aversion to any fabrics. Although i do remember as a little kid been given a woolen jumper to wear and it was so itchy, i refused to wear it and have never worn one since.

Oh my stars @MJG017 I am the same as you with food!

Mohair jumpers 😖 My mother knitted me one and it had goblins in it.

Never wore it again.

@Glisten I do. I can gag when I smell something unpleasant. I do love perfumes as long as it’s not overpowering. If I smelt it constantly and strongly for hours, even good smells might become too much. Toilet cleaning is a nightmare. I also prefer natural fabrics as base layers. My preference is for bamboo because it’s softer than cotton. Cotton and linen also work for me. Though I think I prefer mixture of bamboo cotton for socks and active wear like leggings. Silk is also good for scrunchies and sleep mask. Don’t forget the tags, those can be annoying.

@creative_writer do you cut your tags off as well? 😆

@Glisten I cut or pull them off when they are a nuisance 🤣. They bother me more when it’s inner wear. I had to cut my tag off for the undershirt I’m currently wearing. I also use undergarments from a brand where you can pull the tags off easily
