Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Hey all! I decided to kick start a sweet little space for us to gather and talk ADHD!!

You can read the Topic Tuesday discussion (at which I was a guest) here.

Some of my go to resources:

ADDitude - Online Magazine/resource for all things ADHD

Three Pillars - My preference for explaining the experience of ADHD without relying on the DSM-V (scroll to bottom and work your way up the list)

How to ADHD - A Youtube channel with tips, tricks, strategies, how to guides, life hacks, you name it

Russel Barkley - a world renowned psychiatrist who has been at the forefront of research into ADHD, its neurochemical markers, and its impacts on daily experience, particularly in regards to executive dysfunction. The link is to an hour-long video aimed at parents of kids with ADHD. He also has one for adults with ADHD (with actionable tips!).

This is a space to talk about your experiences, struggles, strategies, and just an all-round safe spot to be a big pile of chaotic energy right here!!

Hey folks!! Our lovely @creative_writer (hope it's ok to tag ya here darlin) is struggling with restlessness today! I think it's something that can get to us all so I thought I'd ask around - how do you cope with/manage your sense of restlessness?

@Jynx @creative_writer throw yourself in the ocean 🌊

Go for a swim 🏊 do a couple of laps of the pool.

The ocean is the best.

Read some classic fiction. Takes you away to a different world.

Ooh yes I love that @Glisten - I always find the ocean so cleansing, even just putting my feet in feels like it's washing away the stress!!

You've also reminded me of how important floor time is!! For some reason, just lying down, flat on the floor, maybe a couple stretches, really helps reset my brain!!

@Jynx

Having a tidy environment chills by brain out. Maybe when you feel restless hit some housework. Even if you get distracted and do parts of jobs like I do lol.

Ooh yes good point @Oaktree - I love a good potter! Sometimes I do end up with like, four half-finished jobs but progress is progress! 😅

@Shaz51 I do think physical movement can help. Even when I’m not exercising, fidgeting and pacing actually help me self-regulate. I have literally given up trying to mask fidgeting in public if I don’t need to.

@Glisten I haven’t been to the beach for a while, maybe I should go. No beaches near my house. Classic fiction does is unique. It does take you into a different world.

@Jynx it’s kind of why I find Pilates can be helpful
