The ebb and flow of my illness

The ebb and flow of my illness

I must admit, I've had a run of pretty good days of late, but it's all come crashing down today with bad voices and paranoia to the hilt. I've spent most of the day asleep as when this happens I seemingly just shut down and body goes into a sort of pseudo hibernation mode (does anyone else do this?). I don't know how to feel today. I catch myself when awake staring into space for long periods of time just surrounded by my voices. Usually, I am able to distract somewhat, but today I can't. It is like something is in the air or something weird like that.

I hope with all my heart that I am not headed for another episode. My doctor is away and cannot see me until the middle of the month. There is no locum available who knows my case history.

I'm worried. 😞

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

@Kurra I will call my psychiatrist's nurse tomorrow, as it is a public holiday today. I remember when I was in hospital I was allowed extra PRN of one of my antipsychotics, so that might be something to consider.

@Shaz51 I feel battle weary but I am keeping on going. Thanks for thinking of me 🙂

Today I am just laying low so to speak. My gf is watching horror movies all day, and I don't feel I can watch tv for long. I am just flitting here and there. Might even go and hibernate again soon (who knows?). Tomorrow I am going to a voice hearer's group at a peer led organisation which will be good I figure. Bad news is I'm going alone. Usually my gf comes with me for support but she has a prior appointment and can't join me. I think I need to go though and it will probably be good for me to discuss topics I'm not comfortable discussing in front of her anyway.

Sounds good @Queenie. Let us know how you go with the pnurse. 🎶💕💗💕🎶

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

Will do @Kurra 🙂 I am guessing she will probably run it past my psychiatrist (she will ring his mobile most likely) and see what he says. I personally don't see he'll have a problem with using PRN while things are haywire, as long as it isn't a constant thing (I run the risk of dyskinesia otherwise as it's a first gen AP).

Tardive dyskinesia you don't want @Queenie. Im so glad you're acting now! 🎶💗💕

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

Well I phoned my psychiatrist and was told he would phone back prior to 6pm. It is now 6:45pm and no phone call. Tried calling him back and his office is now closed. Bugger 😞

I did also go to the voice hearer's group and found some of what was discussed beneficial as we discussed challenging voices and coping strategies. I found my paranoia level through the roof though.

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

But you did go and you stayed despite your paranoia levels. I'm so proud of you @Queenie!

Hmm not so good about your psychiatrist not calling back. It's possible the doc got an emergency call and wasn't able to phone you.
Di you get a chance to speak to your psych nurse? 🎶💕🎶

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

Yes I stayed @Kurra so that's a small victory for me.

It's possible my psychiatrist got an emergency call, he does work at 2 different hospitals as well as his private rooms. I think he just got snowed under however, as he often gets delayed and runs behind. I'll ring back tomorrow again.

I didn't call my psych nurse because I forgot she only works Mondays and Fridays. So if I want to talk to her, it will be Friday at the earliest.

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

Small victory @Queenie? I think you might need to reconsider the word small. That would have been a huge victory for me.
Yes, do try the doc again tomorrow. ☺💗

Re: The ebb and flow of my illness

Hi Queenie

There are times when just being in bed is all that matters, snuggling under the doona and cuddled by cats (lucky me) for the whole day is pretty well all I can manage. I do battle so much with the shoulds and would stuff although there are sometimes when I can make it quiet.

I just have no idea if taking the stuff as prescribed is actually helping. I am glad that you have also found this forum.

Lotsa luv
