The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety)

is the official coordinator of the global Safer Internet Day effort in Australia. This year the theme is #PlayitFairOnline.

Daisydreamer gave the introduction to the Chat session as follows:
"The 8th of February is Safer Internet Day; a national awareness day to promote safety online. We are online more now than ever in history, accessing the internet for work, education, social connection, support, information, gaming.... the list goes on!
Part of using the internet is knowing how to do so safely so our experience is free from cyber crime, cyber bullying, and allows us to get the most out of technology.
As an online community, we rely on the internet to connect with each other, share experiences and seek help. Let's chat together about safety online, and how we can look after ourselves and others when using the internet."
The primary questions asked in the chat session were:
{which may form the basis for discussion in this thread}
- What are you most interested in when it comes to Safer Internet Day?
- Is there anything you hope to explore in this discussion?
- Question 1: What does safety online mean to you?
- Question 2: Have you had experiences online that have felt unsafe or been exposed to unsafe content, and
- how did you take action to address the situation?
- Question 3: When we think about online spaces that feel kind and respectful,
- What sorts of behaviours and communication are we seeing in those spaces?
- What makes an online space feel welcoming and respectful?
Question (4): Unfortunately, cyberbullying is on the rise with more and more people relying on the internet for communication and social connection.
If you have experienced it, in what locations have you experienced cyberbullying? {Please keep anonymity in mind}
What does cyberbullying look like?
Where can you turn for help or support when experiencing cyberbullying?
