Which hospital?

Which hospital?

I'm currently not feeling right. Not actively suicidal but I don't want to be here, chronic cannabis dependency, a questionable BPD diagnosis, pmdd, just to name a few. I've been looking at my private mental health hospital options in NSW and I'm so overwhelmed by the mainly shitty reviews. Does anyone here have recommendations on a hospital that does detox as well look after your mental health

@Bengalcat

I'm not sure, but I think we can't make such recommendations due to the guidelines, sorry.

Edit: But welcome! I hope you find the forums useful and friendly

Re: Which hospital?

Hey @Bengalcat and @StuF,

We don't have any rules against talking about treatment options and services to explore, however whatever you do post does need to be in line with the anonymity guideline - i.e. probably best not to post things like names of practitioners you've worked with or other kinds of identifying information.

Also, it's important to keep in mind that what works for one may not work for another - we're all different and have differing needs in our MH treatment journey. So feel free to offer suggestions or talk about your own experiences, but be wary of giving advice or making claims that cannot be backed up.

We also have a bit of a guide about accessing MH services and navigating your recovery journey, you can have a read through to see if anything could be helpful! Link

Feel free to ask us questions (or flick us an email via team@saneforums.org) if you would like anything clarified or have any concerns!

@Jynx

Thanks for clarifying that!

Well @Bengalcat

For what it is worth, I have had good experiences with Northside Clinic in St Leonards.

But as @Jynx suggested, your experience will be unique, depending on what you need to get out of an inpatient stay.

I had a quick look at some of their reviews. There is a full range, that's for sure. Unfortunately it is impossible to know how your admission will go.

So yeah, dunno how useful this post is really! But there you have my opinion at least 🙂

Re: Which hospital?

Personally, I am not sure going to hospital to detox is a good choice, unless you know that you are not focused enough to do it on your own.. you are better off tapering in your own time.. the hospital is going to make your withdrawal 10 times worse, and they will have very little pity for you..

Addiction and withdrawal are so misunderstood in the medical community..

The other thing to consider is.. has the underlying problem been fixed.. if not, you may end up worse off..
