Welcome and getting started

New here.

New here.

My name is JuZ and I have been living with depression and anxiety for 13 years.

This is the first time I joined a forum to help with this sort of thing.

It all started when my relationship with my father wasn't going so well and after a very emotionally controlling relationship that had ended in my 20s (I am 37 now). I wasn't sleeping properly, I was suicidal. Crying so much. I was in a psychiatric unit for a month because I simply wasn't coping . Ever since then I have been very up and down. I was lucky to somehow along the way experience a bit of happiness. But I always came crashing down. I have had help. I had a psychologist and spoke to a few councilors, which helped a little bit. But that sort of help can only go for so long.

This month I have been really feeling it. Sometimes it's situational sometimes its for no reason at all. Today, I could barely get out of bed and couldn't stop crying, which is so rare for me. I then did some research and found out that the birth control implant was apart of it. I have been drinking heavily lately and that has contributed to it becoming worse. I have had a history of getting help with my alcohol consumption. Tried AA, councilors, even got back on a support website to try and cut down. But there are other things that have made it worse. My relationship with my father is still not going well, which made me drink so much, get suicidal and wind up in hospital. My friend had her Grandfather pass away this week and with me being an empath sadly I carry that weight. I work as a kitchenhand and lately my hours are all over the place so my routine is also upset. I am here because I want to cope again. But in another way. I have lost a lot of motivation to do the things I love and I find that pretty upsetting also. Anyway this is pretty much my story in a nutshell.

Hello and welcome to the forums community @TheJuZShoW 😊

What an amazing first step you've made joining a forums community to seek some support- thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. I hope that it can be the start of a more upward trajectory for you.

I can hear that you've gone through a lot in life, and are continuing to experience challenging things like a difficult relationship with your father. I can definitely understand why you'd be struggling lately with some upsetting events and routines disrupted by varying work hours.

These are some pretty big things to be tackling- trauma, drinking, relationships and boundaries. Which isn't to say that they're impossible to address or recover from, but rather I anticipate it'd take some time to really address, heal, and recover.

I am certain that coping and recovery is possible for you, though- I can hear your frustration at struggling to cope, and your desire for something better. I've been through that before. With your motivation and supportive people or services around you, I can absolutely see a better future for you.

Seeking out support and connection here is a great step and something that's always available. To consider some other steps, including setting up specialised, professional supports - you could speak to your GP (if you have one) for referrals to other services, or connect with services like these:

I will also check in with you and your safety and wellbeing by email.

Wishing you the very best,

Girasole 🌻

Hi and welcome, @TheJuZShoW , it's good to have you here. 🙂

There was something I was wondering...you wrote:

and I was wondering why you think that counselling can't go on for long? I know myself that I have so many issues that I hope to be in counselling the rest of my life - not sure how to cope otherwise!

I hope you find the forums here supportive.

Re: New here.

I think what I meant was is that the doctor refers you for 6 or 10 seshes with someone (for EG) and they are over when you finish them and when you start to feel better, then don't get help because sometimes you feel you don't need it. I think it's really an ongoing cycle. I am always coming to terms with the fact I could keep on winding up sad.
