not coping with New job

not coping with New job

I've just started a full time job - my first full time job and I'm only a week in, but now I feel trapped. I'm so stressed out, I go to bed feeling like I might be sick and dreading the next day; I'm making stupid mistakes but it feels like my supervisor expects me to just get it and do well - it's a physical job on a farm and I'm so clumsy (which I disclosed), I have slow sensory-motor speed meaning my brain takes a much longer time to process my environment and move my body accordingly, plus auditory processing issues and predominantly inattentive ADHD (which I'm off treatment for currently) - so I zone out or I don't hear what is said and need to ask again which frustrates my supervisor. I get the distinct impression she doesn't like me, thinks I'm useless, and I feel like she's even tried scaring me away by showing me some of the harder and less glamourous bits of the job. I feel like I need to get out now and just go back to siting in my home nice and safe even with centrelink and jobseeker looming over me -- but the idea of leaving so soon makes me feel like a failure and as incompetent as I'm trying to stop believing that I am. I was only planning on being in this job for a year, potentially only half a year, and part of me knows that's not really a long time, but another part of me is worried that if I'm feeling like this a week in it's going to be too much. I don't know what to do, really I'm so stressed my eczema is flaring up and I can't manage to process my emotions.
I'm going to check if there have been any cancellations for my therapist this week (though it's doubtful) and maybe speak to my job coach tomorrow, I don't know if will be able to get the words out though.

And... it's gone. No more job for me. Apparently I expected the job to be something different then it was?? No, I expected to have a proper schedule that was well communicated to me, some actual guidance and training and not a manager who clearly didn't want to put up with me. I guess I feel somewhat relieved... don't know how I'm going to explain 'lasted 2 weeks on the job' to any potential future employer especially since my last job lasted 5 weeks before they purged 11 people for no reason.

I'm sorry @Campbarry Sounds like you have a lot going on and this has been a stressful ordeal. You haven't been treated fairly but sounds like you are relieved and might be able to find something that suits you better? Here if you want to chat about it.

Thank you @Paperdaisy , I am somewhat relieved if frustrated. I'm talking to someone soon, so I'll be okay, but I really appreciate the offer

Re: not coping with New job

I don't think anyone is actually following this anymore but a little update if someone comes along and wants to know how this story ends 😂

I actually feel a lot less stressed, I've done a few nice things for myself yesterday and today, and not going back to an environment with a toxic supervisor who was taking their frustration out on me is really relieving - I've had some bad news from my family, and I need to go visit ASAP, but not being in that environment any longer has given me lots of room to cope and I'm handling it okay.
The hiring squad for the company that the farm was under gave me a call to get my side of the story, they seemed really willing to listen, learn and prevent this from happening to someone else... they want to keep me on board at a different site it would mean I have to relocated though.
It's only two hours away and I have really wanted to move out - sometime when my stress is high I can easily turn down decisions like this so that I can stay in my comfort zone where I feel safe, so I've asked for time to think on it and discuss with others - but taking this opportunity would fulfil some of my goals, and I did enjoy the work, just not the environment - like I mentioned I was starting to feel like I could do it for the rest of the year.
I've never rented before so that's a bit scary, and I would want to rent, I've done the share house thing and I don't think I can do it again. I'm speaking to my disability job services provider today to see if maybe there is someone I can discuss how to do all that with. Honestly, a 42hr work week at $23/hr base rate, I think if I found a little place for $350 or less per week, plus with the relocation fund offered by the government for job-seekers - I could probably do it... the cat and I might have to do without proper furniture for a little while (he has his cat tree, and beds though), but I can slowly build up the basics, I wouldn't need anything extravagant, and if I manage my money right I could even start adding to my savings. And it's not so far away that I would feel isolated from my family - I already moved two hours away for uni - and it's close enough to a city that I can get a good mental health team in place... I really think I should just take the leap, it would probably do me some good rather than just stagnating like I have been, it feels like a more exciting prospect the more I think about it.

@Paperdaisy she's ready to go, and I think that makes it a bit easier, but I haven't seen her in a while and just hoping I can make it in time to see her off so she knows I care, I was planning on going this weekend but now need to push it forward, and I guess no longer having to work lets me do that - so there's a bit of a plus in a trying time :). Thank you for your kind words as always.
