Searching for meaning.

Searching for meaning.

For me one of the more subtle but persistent traits of my BPD is my lack of self and chronic emptiness.

I always feel there has to be more to me, and more to life than what I currently experience.

I frequently look to different spiritual concepts to find some meaning and purpose but can never settle on one ideology.

I switch from things like Yoga to Buddhism to Paganism but can never find what I am looking for.

I do think that something to believe in, some greater purpose would be helpful in my daily life and mental health but just struggling to find it.

Has anyone had any success in a journey of self discovery?
Any guidance you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Searching for meaning.

@Nikolai. I think my greatest discovery has been finding my old self again and discovering new aspects of myself that I never knew. I am liking who I am. This only came about with the help of a wonderful psychologist.
I do not have BPD. But others on this forum do & I'm sure they will respond to your post and be able to share part of their journey.
Wishing you well

Re: Searching for meaning.

I was raised a Christian and my grandfather was a minister. In my late teens I got sick of all the rules and decided I was tired of trying to be perfect. So have been away from it the last 10 years. BUT I have to say after my grandfather died last year - to me he had been like God in the flesh and Gods love - I have felt so much emptiness. Then after being in the hospital a couple months ago and the challenges my husband and I have had to face lately, I have found peace and solace in Gods love and Jesus teachings in the bible and also in prayer. Sometimes I just sit in the beautiful music and I feel so much peace. This has been a great help for me personally so thought I would share. 🙂

Hi @utopia
I am so glad to hear your story, I would love to make that kind of progress, but I guess everyone has their own journey at their own pace.

@kdoll I can really understand and appreciate the peace that having something to believe in and find comfort in could bring. I guess that's exactly what I'm looking for, just need to find what is right for me. Thanks for sharing!
