Ginger Rogers?

Ginger Rogers?

I'm starting to feel like doing the mental health supporting stuff (eating healthy, exercising, meditating etc.) as a person with a SMI is like being Ginger Rogers dancing with the mentally healthy Fred Astaires of the world - having to do everything they do, but more assiduously, without as many spoons to do so. What do you think about this metaphor?

Hi @Gwynn
Sounds like a great idea to me! Hopefully your new year's resolutions work out and yes that metaphor is relatable. Both fortunately and unfortunately, depending on context.

Hi @Millieme, it stands for severe mental illness. Thanks for asking!

Re: Ginger Rogers?

I dunno @Gwynn I think you could find a better one, although I agree that Ginger embodied a higher level of skill than that old geezer, Fred. (I grew up watching Hollywood musicals and all those odd movies that were on telly in the 60s and 70s)

I like this take at wordsofwomen.com (clickum link)

Everyone knows Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. The ultimate dancing duo throughout the 1930s, the pair made nine films together. They symbolized “old Hollywood”

Maybe you're doing everything that Ginger did but in thongs!
