TW: may be upsetting for some viewers

Before I start, I'd like to let you all know that I'm safe.

Today I went out with a support worker. I had fish and chips and a cup of coffee, which was delicious! I had a few things to whinge about, but generally I had a great time.

When I got home, I started thinking of things and some concerns which keep plaguing my mind. So I had to ring two counselling helplines to help me cope. I'm hoping to see my doc soon about this as I need more medical care; at the moment I feel I get the right medical assistance in hospital, but in my own home I'm not receiveing enough medical care. So I'll sort this out because I don't want to keep going with emergency interventions when I can get a different medical plan worked out, and hopefully my mental health will improve.

My main concern is that my life situation is refractory, meaning that my mental health can wane between good and bad and back again, but my life situation isn't likely to change, so I need disability assistance for the rest of my life, and psych care for the rest of my life, and an exercise program to keep me physically healthy and somewhat happy.

I'm sorry to bore you all today. I just have to write these things out for moral support and to find hope somewhere. In turn I like to read posts and give my own moral support to those posts hoping other people will cope better soon if they're not well at the moment. This is what I like about the forums; I can distract myself with writing about my experiences to increase mental health awareness and to hopefully feel not so stuck in my own rut, so to speak. It's nice to come on here knowing that most of us can understand and relate to different issues and offer stories of hope. With that said, I hope everyone else continues to hang in there and we can all welcome in a new day of sunshine tomorrow.

@Former-Member You seem to have a great awareness of what you need and that is often the biggest battle. I think most of us here go through those waves of 'good' and 'bad' but learning how to deal with the downs as much as living with (and thriving) with the ups is important. Having that personal awareness of what can help you ...and seeking that support is really commendable and a very big positive despite the help you have needed today. It is also a massive positive that you have recognised you needed support and reached out for it - that takes strength and courage. ....and Yes - tomorrow is a new day 👍

Good evening @Former-Member

I'm so glad that you are safe. What I read is that you know what you want and have plans on how to get it - psych care and disability supports- and you know that an exercise plan works for you which is great. Well done on that insight into your own life and care👍🏻!

As for mental health and hospital treatment, that's an individual thing that needs to be looked at with you and your treating team. Personally, I had an admission to a hospital in September due to psychosis and whilst the ward was helpful (after me getting used to how it runs and me not trying to control everything in my life- long story!) I found that sometimes life for treatment is better in the community where you can still live your life and do what you want and when you want. I found that getting treatment via a psych triage team in the community by having them call and check up on me along with the help of my psychologist works well for me and I'm not restricted to the rules of being in hospital which I struggled with. I do believe there are times when a hospital admission is required and I'm all for that but at other times, I think there are better options. Do you have access to a community treatment option called PARCS which is a mental health option that is residential where you stay at the facility for a certain amount of time and receive treatment and education and build up your skills but is less restrictive than hospital? It's basically a middle step between home and hospital whereby you aren't sick enough for hospital but you aren't well enough for home either if you can grasp the idea. I've often used the facility near my house and it's worked wonders especially my last stay which happened after I came out of hospital for 2 weeks at the advice of my psychologist who asked the hospital to refer me there as I wasn't well enough to return home. Basically, you learn skills relating to your mental health conditions to help you function in the community and to help you live your life again. I know they operate in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia but I think other states and territories might have similar options if that's something you might be interested in exploring.

Take care forumite friend!

Hi @Judi9877
Thanks for mentioning this halfway service. I'll look into this. Options under the NDIS are hard to come by in this regard, but without divulging too much of my situation as I don't want to lose annonymity, I need a lot of support which i'm getting, and my medical docs need to keep doing safety assessments so I remain safe whether at home or in a group setting. As always, I appreciate your suggesttions and will look into those as and when I'm ready as I feel very overwhelmed and need to take things day by day at the moment, and I need to assess my coping abilities every day so I can settle into a program which best suits my current circumstances. Let's just say the NDIS is a maze to deal with, which is making me more anxious. I've just boiled some water to make a cuppa so I'll focus on my morning routine for now as I want my stress levels to remain as low as possible.
It sounds as though most of us on these forums know what we want for ourselves and how to reach out for the supports we need, which is always a good start to fixing any problem.
