Something’s not right

Relocation decision - Please help.

Relocation decision - Please help.

I have decided when my lease is up to relocate from the small town I live in. It's been on my mind for 6 months. Tonight I finally decided.

It hasn't been an easy decision. I'm very tired of moving around and I truly just want to settle down and have stability. So, deciding to relocate isn't easy.

However, this town isn't right for me in do many ways. There is high crime, I've seen quite a lot. I don't feel safe going out and that is even during the day. Forget night times at all. The town itself is beautiful, it's the high crime and recently left serious domestic violence. I can't handle the fact that I may see the person. I just can't live like this at all. The town being so small means it is likely.

The issue I need help with is I don't know where to move to nor how to even start thinking about where to go. I wasn't expecting to move again for quite some time. I have so much on my plate to deal with that I literally don't know where to start with this at all.

So, thought I might ask here to see if anyone has some suggestions on where I could start?

FYi, I have not thought about a place I would like to live. All I know is I feel I can't breathe living here and I am not happy here.

I want to live where I just feel safe and there is less crime. Open to suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi @Powderfinger , I'm wondering if you could make a list of what's essential for you. For instance, do you need to be near a choice of psychologists, or a hospital, or do you need green spaces around you, or a back yard to sit in the sun in? Do you want close neighbours to potentially make friends with, or would you prefer no neighbours (city/country)? Do you need to be near community activities or volunteering /work opportunities, do you have any people in your life that you want to be near, would you require public transport or any other things as you get older? I'm projecting forward and thinking of if you want to build up connections and resources in your new town as you get older.

Good luck with your decision making...

Hi @NatureLover

I like your suggestions. I'm going to do this as it will help alot in deciding what I want and need for me. My brain is also very much in a fog. I'm not sure where to even start looking. Like where to move to. I guess that will come in time. For now this is a start. Thank you so much.

After your list of essential needs, then you can start looking at what locations meet your needs.

A lot of people talk down the census but it does tell us fine detail about places. If you look up census stats from ABS online you can see the age, sex of different places as well as the cost of weekly rents.

Crime statistics are done by each state/territory government, usually by the police or justice departments. I have looked at the crime rates for places I was thinking of moving to, before. It gave me some reassurance, even though no-one can predict future crime, the history gives you a sense of it.

All the best for your planning. Liberty x

Hello @Powderfinger @NatureLover @Former-Member

some great ideas there! Another one is, do you want to spread your wings further a field and move to a different state, different climate. Woułd you prefer to buy a block of land and live in a tiny house of grid?

There are some country towns that advertise properties for a few dollars to just get people to move there. But you would have to look this up.

sounds exciting @Powderfinger wishing you a happier future ❤️

@Former-Member

Thank you. I am really not sure right now. It is good to know I have many options though.
