Dad against government and covid

Dad against government and covid

Hi all

Unpfrtunately for about 6 years my dad has been mentally unwell. I think it stemmed from a mid life crisis, some changes in his work and life, and he turned to God.

However, he has also turned to the Internet.

There are a lot of people on the Internet who are religious, who preach the world will end, and the signs are happening all around us. One of them being covid-19.
previous situstions are the Pope, Donald trump, certain wars, etc.

however, this current lockdown and the vaccine roll out has very much pushed my dad. Possibly to the point of suicidal thoughts and wanting to die to be with Jesus.

examples are - he will be locked up if he doesn't get the vaccine, the vaccine will sterilise us and will turn us into trans humans as it has "nanobots" inside it for the government to control us. And this is all the new world order upon us.

he believes EVERYTHING on the Internet.
the main problem is, is that my mum is not coping with it anymore. She is scared to get vaccinated for the sole reason my dad might find out. It is destructive and abusive. But I also understand he is mentally very unwell.

drug use past and present could also be playing a role and has led to this (nothing hard - soft drugs).
I am concerned and don't know what to do. I want to help my mum and get her out of this abusive and hurtful marriage, but I also don't want my dad to suffer and be mentally unwell. He also refuses to see a doctor as there is nothing wrong with him. He needs a diagnosis as I am unsure what is going on.

i need to know this isn't just my family going through this. It is almost unheard of and so hard in lockdown. Thank you all

Hello@maybeme

I am sorry to hear the strain that your family is and has endured. I am sure they are not the only ones. I was just reading this article and then I wondered if you would find it helpful to open up the conversation somehow .... with one or both of your parents.

Sorry I cant be more helpful, but this article discusses the change in meaning of the word apocalypse, perhaps it can be used in a less frightening way.

I am sorry you are going through this, and that your mum is too. 😞

My nice neighbour/friend is an anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist, and I also have a different friend who believes in the religious signs of the end of the world, etc. They both think I'm crazy for not believing in these things. I have had to step back from both of them a bit, and just care about them and not their views. I also had to ask them both gently to stop talking about those things with me. They have both mostly respected that, luckily, as it was getting me down.

So you are not alone, although it must be much more difficult when it's in your family, and with seeing your mum suffer. 😞 It must be especially hard in lockdown, as you say. 😞

I'm very sorry that your dad refuses to see a doctor. And that your mum is scared of abuse if she has the vaccination. All I can do is send you my sympathy.

Please take good are of yourself at this very difficult time, @maybeme . I hope you can make time every day for self care and rest. Mentally too, if possible - although I know that's very hard.

Re: Dad against government and covid

Hi @maybeme it's not exactly the same, but my Mum is very much against the government and all the Covid stuff. She believes it's their way of controlling us and refuses to get the vax. She also has an auto immune diseases and it's advice that she doesn't get it anyways, but she's telling my dad not to get, when he is a really high risk due to health conditions, she's tried to talk me out of it, even tried to get into an argument with my own gp during a phone call about it.
I don't have any real answers for you, just that you are not alone in this. There will always be people that are against things, but it sounds perhaps your dads mental health is making his worse?
