Disability employment services

Disability employment services

Had my first appt. this week with a DES provider on Monday. My mental health problems are triggered by workplace environments (bullying etc.) I don't know what information Centrelink sent them but suicide was mentioned. The consultant stated suicide was selfish. For someone who struggles with suicide thoughts and plans I did not need to hear this. I had a letter from both my Psychitarist and GP about my work readiness etc. They are both concerned about my working. The consultant did not want to read it. Wrote job plan - look for 12 jobs and come back in two weeks. I thought these providers were meant to help. I asked about references and what to do? No help by consultant. This particular provider is meant to specialise in mental health.

I left the appt. feeling like .... I have made an appt. to see Social worker at Centrelink next week. Not feeling well at the moment

Hi Li1

Wow womanhood is just fantastic at times. The hormonal influences are not overly well understood apart from at the Alfred, VIC. Wonderful research regarding the potential for eotrogen to assist with 'mature' mood problems and certainly from my reading on the subject, a great potential for feeling better. Have a little look when you are able.

I hear you regarding the job thing - my psychologist and pdoc went on about the same - you can't work, it will damage you further, you will not manage, it will harm you again and best of all - reinforcement that I was harmed and therefore incapacitated. Yep, I know that this is true.

It matters to be able to go to work, it helps, even if sometimes getting out of bed and doing the entire self cleaning and grooming thing is just about the hardest in the world. Like you, I recognise that it actually helps.

Perhaps it is really impotnat to consider the concept of maturity. Regardless of the wonders of hormones - we have something that we own, It is called wisdom and I make it something to strive for everday.

Welcome to the WISE

Lotsa luv Bast

Yes,being wise is similar to sucking it up .I left the workplace four years ago,for several reasons, including being bullied the day before my fortieth ,and having a tiredness I could not beat, combination was a time bomb.Made a psychologist appointment today even though I have little faith in it anymore as I have learnt it is basically some smart*** sitting there telling you what to do with your life whilst you go through a box of tissues in the process. When she mentions the DSP I feel worse, feel like I must look "less than".In some ways the 3-4 years of counselling has left me more damaged, which has made me more vulnerable to feelings of hopelessness and suicide.Yes,I used to get up at 4.30,do a 8 km walk and be at work at 7.30, now most days like yesterday can't wake up til 11 am,up now due to have to go to appointment. No purpose in life.I let everyone determine my life but me ,had many problems contribute to not being able to suck it up,including being a very obese child, constant dieting to lose 55 kgs in my early thirties. Many traumas in your life have a way of catching up with you if you lack self care and can't manage stress.I just hope I can return to the workplace and get a life, living on welfare is very debilitating in itself.

Re: Disability employment services

Saw my GP today completed another medical certificate for Centrelink. Also said they would support application for DSP. Need to talk to Psychitarist and psychologist and start the process. Told GP I'm struggling big time .

Re: Disability employment services

@Ma60. Such good new that they will totally support your application. I hope that offers you a bit of relief.
How are you feeling after that appointment?
When are your next psychologist & psychiatrist appointments?
Even though these 3 therapists will be supporting your DPS claim, please don't forget they are still there to support you through anything else that you need. And please continue to look after yourself as best as you can

Re: Disability employment services

Hi @Ma60,

Sounds like a daunting process. Is your GP supportive? What did they say when you told them that you were struggling?

Hi M60 (m a prcictioning and full time cynic,

I znd an inressed that yuu have a SW Cenreinlnk SW appoitmemt snd an suspectly nd well and truly your the odds of stasfory outcome.

It is cometely discrininatey and lacks anysort of of compassion that the mMT gov't is cn't eeem to comphend the homelessness, with all the myriad isssues is the alingned with same

A quick examination is cerainlly warranted - Noone safe to redside, nutritinal foo (total bonsus), repreately tramua and unfortuntely, repeatedlt experiences, chronic disases, good and ongoing eking to 'scratch try and get by including medicine, Just a few to condsider,in short, some of the c0re, yet statndards of psyical and health health.

It is al work a work a limied important level whilst you are able on the DSP, Moverover, that cetainlty cainn as approriate..

What is really th proptit here _ The SW role is to represent you her snd to enuse the best possible f0r you.

Hello Ma60

I also have had these issues and was originally set to be put to work 30plus hours, I asked centrelink for a job capacity assessment which found me unable to work for less than 8 hours per week, these job service providers really can be very mean, here is a link to some information on how they should deal with those with mental illness.
