isolated and very lonely

isolated and very lonely

Hi I'm feeling so isolated and lonly at the moment.'ve had agorophobia for 30 yrs but am doing a bit better now.My friends have all left and i only have my 2 dogs and computer for company.I've tried setting up a coffee group and did go to 1 coffee morning but now my mental health and mood has dropped down so much i struggle to get through the day.I just want some friends to talk to.Nobody ever rings and asks am i ok,I handle my life on my own, although i do have a support worker twice a week to help me get out but i pretend that everything is ok.I put a post up on facebook in an over 50's freindship forum for people to chat to..but only 1 person answered my message..i cry my eyes out nearly everyday.I supose it's actually good to get it out there how i'm feeling,i've been carrying it around for a while now

Meeting a new gp this morning, as my trusted long term one has gone. It's not easy to find a mental-health friendly one that you can feel comfortable with but it's so important, so the search begins.

@frog I'm not sure where your home thread is...so I'm interrupting this one to say, I'm sorry you've lost your long term trusted GP. I also have recently lost my trusted GP who I've been seeing for 30 years. I've researched new ones but haven't been to try anyone yet. It's very disconcerting and leaves me feeling a bit lost. So you have my empathy!

How did the appt go yesterday with the new GP that you're trying? I really hope you can find someone good and suitable soon.

Noticed you've gone into lockdown too. I hope it won't be too long this time. I pulled out my craft box today and started another 5 d diamond painting picture. It is fiddley but doesn't require too much thinking. I hope today was ok for you.

Re: isolated and very lonely

Hi @seven1164 I hope the improvement continues. I make a big pot of plunger coffee with breakfast and that does me for the day.

I've read that paradoxically meditation with a mantra helps loneliness. I haven't meditated for a while but have found it very helpful when I've been anxious and ruminating. I set a timer for 20 minutes.

I had a good weekend and caught up with some family and friends - just brief exchanges but very nice. Even an sms helps.

Hope you have a nice night - do you watch much TV? I tend more to radio.

Hi @seven1164

I hope you and Susie and Stevie had a good day - walkies and good food for the latter would be doggy heaven.

I'm still adjusting to the loss of my old grey fluffball - the grief surprises me sometimes - it's a week now. My tabby tripawd misses him too.

Do you have any plans for tomorrow or the day after? I was going on an outing with my psychologist- first time ever - but it was cancelled because of lockdown.

Hoping tomorrow is kind to you

Lockdown is making it more stressful but i understand we have to do this.Going out with my support worker today to do grocery shopping. If i'm honest i'm really just going through the motions at the moment hoping whatever is affecting me will give me a break soon.Going to try and concentrate on reading a book.Libraries are closed but i have an ereader and i just ordered a charger from Ebay as i haven't used it for years.

Hi @seven1164 ,

just checking in to see how you are going. Sunny hear today. I usually feel brighter when the sun shines. We've just put away the groceries from an online order and then doing some work in the garden and helping with dinner. Hoping the day is bright for you.

Hi @seven1164 sorry I was late seeing your post. It's good to tag people eg @Lost9 @Historylover @Former-Member @Historylover and me @Dimity so we're notified. I'm glad your local library helps with ebooks, mine also has a clickandcollect service for catalogue items.

Is the photo of Susie and Stevie? They're gorgeous little critters. It looks like you could fit both on your lap at once. My brother had a Jack Russell once that was tiny but had a really big personality.

I slept very late today, I've been a bit down. I'll try to catch up with some chores this afternoon. I can hear wattlebirds and lorikeets outside and see a few patches of blue sky so I might even venture a walk.

Take care

@seven1164,

love the pics of Susie and Stevie. How lovely to have them in your life. I'm never lonely when I have the company of a dog but I guess you crave some people to talk to.

Re: isolated and very lonely

I have a habit of having a different viewpoint to others on so many things, @seven1164., but it doesn't stop me from expressing them.

On this point I would say forget the self-help books on loneliness!! Join your local library where borrowing is free, and there is such an array of books on travel, history, craft, cookery, photography, gardening, and a myriad of other subjects. Find what interests you and grow! Become learned. It beats lonely - hands down.

I joined the library when my family broke down and it became a place where I could be among people. That is how lonely and isolated I was. Sad, I know - but, as with so many things in life, one thing led to another. I started to wander among the shelves - never having been interested before - and stumbled across subjects of interest to me. History to start with, and I studied all the monarchs of England in succession - which was timely because, within a few years I was travelling there on my first overseas trip.

Libraries are FREE! Use the money you save from not having to buy books to save for an overseas holiday when the restrictions lift - in a year or two - if that would be of interest to you. Or whatever else takes your fancy. Save. Save. Save. And watch your money grow. I learnt to utilize every money saving trick I could find and squirreled away enough money for my first trip in 21 months. (I am a pension recipient and pay half in rent alone). When I got there - United Kingdom, I was steeped in knowledge about English history which enabled me to make the utmost of my holiday. Find YOUR goal. Stop with the loneliness caper. Me too! We have to find a way out of this hole - not make a study of it! Turn this liability into an asset. It's not loneliness - it's wasted time!! Put it to good use. One thing which is never wasted is furthering our knowledge base on any and all subjects.

Sending best wishes.

EDIT: Have just read more posts. Sorry - it seems that you may be a library patron already? I'm only half reading at the moment - too much to think about and in a rush. So just make of my post as is of benefit to you. If nothing - just disregard it.
