Am I going insane?

Am I going insane?

Okay so the past few months I have been dealing with extreme paranoia. Thinking my boyfriend is trying to harm me, my best friend is working with him. Pretty much anybody I don't know very well is trying to get me. I usually just let the thoughts past and I try to do some breathing exercises to calm me down. My boyfriend is extremely loving and he makes me the happiest person in the world but I just can't stop the thoughts that he is trying to get me and is manipulating me to fall in love with him. I tell him all my crazy thoughts and he just laughs them off and tell me I should go see a therapist. I did that and went to like 2 sessions and thought I was better but I guess not. But past coupe days I have been hearing things that aren't there, and seeing things that aren't there. I feel so helpless and I don't know what to do. I just want to get back to my old self.

Re: Am I going insane?

Hi @Flower42,

A warm welcome to the Sane forums and it's good to reach out when you are struggling with your mental health.

The type of symptoms you are describing are concerning and may lead to a full psychotic episode. Having auditory and visual hallucinations (hearing and seeing things that aren't real) indicates that you are becoming more unwell with psychosis.

It is important that you ask your boyfriend to take you to the emergency Dept of your local hospital or call the area Mental Health Team / Crisis Assessment Team. These clinicians specialise in mental illness and will be able to help you and recommend the best treatment. You could also contact you counsellor tomorrow and get support there. It is very important to have a full assessment by a psychiatrist and mental health clinicians as these symptoms will not go away on their own, usually medication is needed in the early months of recovery.

Your paranoid mind will be scared about this but you need to trust your boyfriend and those that love you and will support you through this. Recovery outcomes are better if you act early and avoid all substances. With good treatment you can get back to your old self.

Take care, get support and keep us posted on how you go. There are many on this forum who have been through psychosis.

kind regards,

Frog

You mentioned having visual hallucinations-have you also had any physical symptoms such as visual problems, headaches, balance problems etc?

This article on Visual Hallucinations potential causes may be of interest to you.

Are you able to say what the visual hallucinations consist of,do they come with the headaches and are they there all the time now or do they come or go?

This might seem like an obvious question but have you taken any drugs like Ecstacy or Ice?
