Share a cuppa?

Share a cuppa?

I've just made myself a cuppa and would love a friend if anyone is around?

Re: Share a cuppa?

Thanks @tyme

Yeah it was a busy day, took the kids to the beach so that was fun.

im a bit cranky and confused actually I just found out all my shifts at work this week have been cancelled and I have no idea why. I’m a casual so I know this is allowed but I have regular shifts on the same day each week, sometimes it does change but not often, which helps organise care for the kids, and now I have nothing this week, man, we’re in a cost of living crisis i need to work

Re: Share a cuppa?

I’m sure there is a reason for it but doesn’t make it any easier but now I’m out of pocket

Re: Share a cuppa?

That sounds strange @ArraDreaming - as you said, there must be a reason: e.g.

1) mistake (if your shifts are via an app, there could be an issue)

2) something is happening to the business that is beyond control

3) things are winding down

4) you'll get double next week

Whatever the reason, as you said, you'll be out of pocket this week. As far as I understand, casuals have a casual loading to support them in times like this. Seeing you have a family, is there any opportunity to move to permanent part time or anything?

Also, since you are able to go around and do people's gardens, are you able to advertise anywhere? I'm sure a lot of people want their garden trimmed and ready for Christmas and the new year - I certainly do! If someone knocked on my door or put a leaflet in my letterbox, I'd certainly contact them.

I was at someone's house the other day and there were too gardeners there giving a property pretty much a face-lift. They worked the entire day and filled a dump bin! Before long, 5 properties in the neighbourhood wanted them to also do their properties....

Besides that, I'm glad you took the kids out today @ArraDreaming - there would have been a lot of people at the beach I suppose?

Re: Share a cuppa?

I know I should ideally be part time and we have been talking about more hours on part time next year, so hopefully that happens, with one at school it will be more flexible. I just can’t work too much because of my back. 4 days is my limit really, which is why I don’t do as much of my own work anymore, I have been trying to do a few things here and there but I don’t want to reopen fully as I can’t commit to that workload.

Oh well, it’ll work out just frustrating as I am now out of pocket no work and we get charged for care even if the kids don’t go. So that’s a double hit.

it could just be an error on the app I will call in then morning @tyme

And yes that facelift you saw is what I I used to do every day when I worked for myself and loved it, just can’t do that every day anymore sadly, I love it tho @tyme

Re: Share a cuppa?

The unpredictable nature of casual work is frustrating, but it’s worked really well for me and they have been really good with giving me the same shifts every week

Maybe this is where you can train up others @ArraDreaming ?

Oh @ArraDreaming , you have sooooo much potential! There is so much ahead of you. Onwards and upwards 🙂

And yes, if shifts are via an app, let's just say the heat got to the app lol.

I'm logging off now, but I look forward to hearing about what has happened with the shifts (only if you feel you'd like to share 🙂

Please take care,

tyme

Re: Share a cuppa?

Hi @tyme, I had a good night's sleep last night, even though before the concert I got verbally attacked again, this time by a woman who was calling me a racist this time (not the usual "rapist"), and when I met with my friend to go to the concert I said I do have some racist feelings - they're tapes from coming up through the education system of the 1970s and early 80s, which was racist, and probably still is in some ways we don't hear about. My friend said bigotries of every kind are very very common. Most people can see the bigotry in others but never see or own their own, she said if I can own mine that's very powerful.

Then we really enjoyed the concert. It opened with BV Engelbert Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" overture - I love the opening bars of that with the French horns playing the very hymn like melody - then the Haydn 104 which one of his not so good works. Then we had Mozart's concertante for 2 pianos, then Saint Saens' Carnival of the Animals, finally Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture. Fantastic!!
