Something’s not right

Need to be believed/taken seriously

Need to be believed/taken seriously

I should preface this with that I am not in imminent danger..

but I am having increasingly bad thoughts and feeling like I'm drowning in a pool of dread and loneliness but because I've felt more or less this way to some degree for the good part of 2 decades people don't take me seriously anymore. I'm not sure what I really want them to do I taking me seriously because I never want to be in hospital. I just feel like they think I've survived like this for so long it can't be that bad. I think I need more help, more regular help, but a) I can't afford that and b) I work and have a baby. I need a break from my job but I can't do that either, and I need someone to ask if I'm ok every now and then. Just a message- are you ok? Because I'm not and I'm scared. Sometimes I get asked if I'm suicidal and it's not that easy a question to answer and there is this stupid rule that you need some detailed plan to be a real risk but anytime I've gotten to that final tipping point I've not planned it out that way. I don't know how I get people to get it and even if I do how I get any more help anyway that is t hospital

sorry, just needing to not feel so scared and alone

Re: Need to be believed/taken seriously

Thanks @bipolarbunny for the tag and alerting me to this 😊
Hi @destructive, along with many others here, I too can relate to long term feelings of loneliness and dread. It sounds like for you, there's also a whole lot of other stuff happening on top of that as well like your baby and work. That's a lot for any one person to be dealing with! No need to apologise- you're stating what you need, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. As others have suggested, I hope you'll be able to find a little bit of that connection and checking in here on the Forums. 😊

I'm sorry to hear of your struggles accessing help. I know for myself that when I need help the most is also when I find it hardest to reach out. To have those efforts dismissed would be crushing.

SANE has recently started providing 1:1 supports via email and webchat also, completely free. If you feel like that might be helpful or you'd like to know more, follow this link.

Re: Need to be believed/taken seriously

Thanks all. I'm not so good. Just constant bad thoughts and feeling like I'm so close to slipping.

@bipolarbunny @I haven't said that exactly. I did once say that I know it's probably hard for people to know when things are really bad for me because I always struggle. Not outwardly so though, so that's another part of the struggle. I am considered 'high functioning' but it's because it's even more dangerous for me not to be- if some people knew things it would be bad- so I have to hide it. Sure that makes no sense. But I feel like I'll be one of those people that dies and everyone scratches their head saying 'but she was fine'. I think I also struggle to outright say I think I might hurt myself because I'm worried they might do something I don't want, something that would just make things worse.

@TideisTurning i am sorry you know the feeling. Thanks for sharing about the program I'll check it out.

@BraveOne @I think it was you who said you e been feeling this too? If so I'm very sorry. It sucks! I feel like there is just a huge lack of support when you are long term suicidal. People just think you cry wolf. Not that I jump up and down saying that often, if ever, but it's like after a while people expect that as your baseline and so think it's ok. It shouldn't be. No one should have to live like that. Hope you find some ease.

Re: Need to be believed/taken seriously

@destructive

Hi destructive

Never any pressure, it is just an offer that is open in various ways. If you would like to have a look around, all the discussions here are open to everyone. That's the beauty of anonymity.

“

I'll suggest something that may give you a few ideas. You can, if you would like to, left-click on my forum address, @HenryX that I have just 'copied and pasted' from your note to me. That will bring up my profile. You can do this with anyone's forum address. In the profile, there is listed all the conversations with the different people, with whom I have spoken, since I rejoined in Feb this year.

“

The courtesy conversations are fairly clear, like

"Good morning", "Saturday Soiree", "Friday Feast".

Normally the messages in those are short courtesies and lighthearted banter. The other conversations are more in depth, and normally reflect a persons concern, just the way yours has.

“

You are free to look through those conversations. This way you will get some idea of the way that people I've spoken with and I correspond with each other. Some are gentle and some are firmer, but I try to respond with each person in a way that reflects their position, concern, manner of communication and style. At the same time I endeavour to be true to my own style.

“

By taking these steps, you will gain some familiarity with the site, and “learn” to find your way around.

“

I am about to go out shortly, so will not be in for a few hours. However, by following the guides that I have offered, you will begin “learning” the map of the site, and familiarise yourself with a few styles. My aim is for you to feel as comfortable as possible with the site. That way there is less pressure and easier conversation.

“

Another tip: because my posts and responses are often fairly long, I draft the response in my Apache OpenOffice word processor, then copy and paste into the freshly opened reply box of the message to which I am responding. This helps me avoid the

“Authentication Mismatched.......” message,

which occurs with long posts in some forum websites. (Not just this site)

This also leaves me with an original in case I lose the pasted one.

“

I hope that, if you take the opportunity, you will feel more comfortable engaging in discussion on this site.

For now

Best Wishes

HenryX
