Something’s not right

Night Time

Night Time

That scene in Back to the Future 2 where Marty senior is watching TV but he has like 10 different stations playing all at once--that is my brain right now.

Don't even know what I'm thinking any more, it's just a static mess. So many thoughts and memories playing all at once it's confusing and frustrating.

Keep waking up in the early hours of the night thinking and hoping it's almost time to get up. But it never is. Knowing I'll be whiling away the next few hours like this feels like torture. But then when morning comes it's a battle to get out of bed.

I don't like to use the term flashback, I'm not a label person. I always feel like if I use those terms it takes away from others who have more severe problems. I can read about what it is to have a flashback for someone with CPTSD and I can check all the boxes, and inside I guess I know, but I still feel guilt. Like I'm not entitled to those terms. I guess maybe because it was drilled into my head that I was at fault. Maybe that's why I find it hard to use those terms? Because it places blame/responsibility onto someone else? Never even mentioned CPTSD on here before for the above reasons. Only ever been able to refer to my condition as PTSD.

I think, yeah, I guess it was flashback kind of material last week. It was very intense. When the physical component of it strikes it makes it so much harder to deal with. I still have this lingering nausea from it. If I even start to think about it my head starts pounding. Intensity of it has eased up greatly now though. Enough that I can start distancing myself from it all. I had absolutely no control over my thoughts or memories when that kicked in. Just kept ticking over, playing through, again and again. But it's confusing. I consciously have been aware of that instance where my mother was belting my brother. It's not a new memory. But after talking to my brother about all that other stuff, when that memory came up for me this time it came with a boat load of intense feelings. Like in my head I was there again. And I felt all the terror, the desperation, the overwhelming sadness, like I was there. Like I was still sitting on my bed and crying my little eyes out. It's up there with one of my most painful memories, but it's not at the top of the list. But I don't think I've ever experienced a flash back quite this intense before. That's also confusing. You'd think the severity of symptoms would directly relate to the severity of the traumatic memory. Perhaps I haven't been able to process the other events as completely as this one. So maybe it's a good thing? Good isn't the right word. Progress? I don't know. Gritting my teeth as I write this. Poor teeth. Woke up because I do this crazy thing with my jaw sometimes and it knocks my teeth together pretty hard. Two chipped teeth and another with a fracture because of it. Still won't go back to the dentist though.

Well, that was a long ramble. I feel a little lighter after prattling on though. Maybe that's what I need to do to get through the nights right now. Rather than tossing and turning for hours, maybe I'll just pour it out here. Maybe will start a new thread for it though. Maybe should just copy and paste this into a new thread now. OK.

Re: Night Time

Hello @pancakes

finally finished work thank goodnes, what a day!

I am sorry about your lil man, let;s hope the night brings about good change and he wakes as new in the morning. Kids are like that sometimes

I love that you are feeling good today, well done for what you have achieved. It is amazing what tidying can do for the soul. No one here understands why I hate an untidy kitchen. Mind you it is amazing what a difference it makes with one son having moved out!

My boy has been quiet this hospital stay, he has a girl in his life that keeps him busy when not in therapy so I am verylow on his priority to contact. That is ok because it has always been pretty full on so I am appreciating the "break" and not encouraging him by contacting him either.

You know absence makes the heart grom fonder thing is very true 🙂

Older son is coming to spend the night here tomorrow night and buy me dinner. I have made up a bed and very much looking forward to his company.

I am ok. Low mood due to my boys situation but just keeping busy and getting things done.

Therapy booked for Thursday so I will be "a better person" after that haha.

I have booked in leave for a couple of days to visit my bestie up North, I will only be able to do this if my boy is still in hospital, so will see what the Universe decides in that regards. It will be our Thelma and Louise weekend 🙂 Haha.

Still same job, although it has grown somewhat with three managers taking on the various hats that my ex boss wore so very demanding hen they all want something at once. I will be changing but just not the right time at present. Hopefully January, February will allow things to come together for me to make some changes (fingers crossed)

Awwwwwwwwwww it is so good chatting to you again too. Makes me happy 🙂

Best run and get dinner organised, big hugs to you and @Emelia8 and @NatureLover and @Shaz51 and of course the awesome @MDT too x

Re: Night Time

@Anastasia I don't like an untidy kitchen per se, buuut, you know... meh. And yeah, I'm looking at the living room seeing the path of destruction that's followed the little man today... But I'm not any better. Leading by example 💪 haha whoops..

Thats awesome he's coming to stay the night, he must be missing his mumma! That really is lovely though. It always warms my heart reading about the closeness you have with your boys. I am sorry your other son isn't doing well but oh I'm so happy he has a lady in his life. I hope she has a positive effect on everything and she treats him well. I am glad it's giving you a bit of breathing space, you certainly deserve it. I really hope you get to have your thelma/louise weekend--I know the name but haven't seen it, it's a movie yes? A movie about ladies doing lady things yes?

I hope therapy gets off to a good start and that you'll find a lot of value in it. You've always had your plate full and with such heavy stuff, it will be good to lay it down somewhere.

Well work sounds like its changed a bit for you, but doesn't sound like it got any less stressful. Are you still thinking to move into mental health? Or have you had a gut full of it by now?

Sitting down with a cider now and I'm pooped I tell you. Managed to make a start on sorting out my bedroom and remembered to change the sheets. Felt bad for my son being in my hideous cave of a room this morning. Lots more to do but probably need to pace myself a bit. Still not feeling 100% and I'm recognising i tend to operate with the all or nothing approach--this is not sustainable. I'm making a mental note of this now.

@MDT Ill take a gander at your post a bit later tonight my friend. Need to rest my brain a bit for now 👍

Hello dear

@pancakes

I hope this isn't to messy to follow. I am hopingby responding this way it makes sense 😃

"Thats awesome he's coming to stay the night, he must be missing his mumma! That really is lovely though."

Thank you, I am so excited 🙏

It always warms my heart reading about the closeness you have with your boys.

💙 I am very lucky, thank you

"I am sorry your other son isn't doing well but oh I'm so happy he has a lady in his life. I hope she has a positive effect on everything and she treats him well."

Gosh I hope so @pancakes - she did cook him dinner and take it to him last night so I am holding hope that she treats him with kindness and love and her heart is in the right place 🙏

"I am glad it's giving you a bit of breathing space, you certainly deserve it. I really hope you get to have your thelma/louise weekend--I know the name but haven't seen it, it's a movie yes? A movie about ladies doing lady things ye"

Thank you, oh I sooooo hope so. I haven't seen my friend since May thanks to Covid. Yes it's a movie, not sure I've even seen it myself haha, maybe it's wise to watch since I've quoted it. I could be owning up to something I'm not even aware of haha!

"I hope therapy gets off to a good start and that you'll find a lot of value in it. You've always had your plate full and with such heavy stuff, it will be good to lay it down somewhere."

Thank you gorgeous. I'm a firm believer that if you want change you have to make a change. This most recent turn of events with my boy has given me clarity around the need for change. I have to do something because he isn't so it's time for me to dig deep 🤪

"Well work sounds like its changed a bit for you, but doesn't sound like it got any less stressful. Are you still thinking to move into mental health? Or have you had a gut full of it by now?"

Yes work is full on. I do love being busy but I have no passion anymore with it. It's now.just a job, a means to an end. So yes, I definitely want to move to mental health. I am investigating options. It will have to wait for the new year as I can't fit anything else in tight now. No capacity in my brain. I will be ready though next year.

Well done for changing the sheets, I love fresh sheets. I'm going to do that shortly too ✔️🏆

I am sure your boy saw past the mess and just adored being with you. Kids have a knack for not seeing detail like that.

I'm sorry you're still not feeling 100%. I'm super proud that you recognise this and that even more so realise that you take the all or nothing approach. Something to work on and I know you will.

Bl00dy hell you're awesome @pancakes!

Must get moving, I have a shipment to Canada to organise and then an appointment which is out my parents way so I might sneak there for a quick cuppa depending on the urgency of tasks today.

Bug hugs and love to you precious. Enjoy your day. You and your little man will be in my thoughts. I hope nothing came of the ear and sniffly nose?

@pancakes 💙🙏💙

Aw nice sleepover night is it?

Ah tbh @Anastasia its been a bit of a long day here. Didn't have a good night with trauma nightmares and stressing about my mate. I haven't from him but he has spoken to others. Anyway. Would rather hear about your day
