Victoria Lockdown. No motivation and bored.

Victoria Lockdown. No motivation and bored.

I'm having trouble coping with the lockdown. I'm disappointed because I had a holiday booked this month with a good friend of mine. The 7 day lockdown was hard enough, but it's another 7 days. I can't foresee us getting out of lockdown after this extra 7 days either.

I can't get motivated. I've written a list of activities to do, and after doing a few of them I get bored. I'm just so bored. I just want to lay on my bed and sleep. Any recommendations would be great.

Hey @Aniela, sending lots of love It's an awful situation to have to be in (again); I'm crossing my fingers that things come under control soon.

In the meantime- try to be gentle with yourself if you're struggling? 💐 These are truly extreme circumstances we're living through- we may never (I sure hope we don't!) have to live through anything like this ever again in our whole lives. So it makes absolute sense to potentially feel overwhelmed, undermotivated, etc. right now

Nice one making this thread, by the way- I'm certain you're not the only one feeling like this

@Former-Member what things can I do to be gentle with myself right now?

@Aniela when I was in lockdown I reduced the expectations I had of myself- if there was something that I was planning to do, but it didn't have to be done, I just put it off until after lockdown so I could spend more time focusing on getting by and looking after myself. Maybe even some positive self-talk, like "it's okay/understandable that I'm feeling this way." These may or may not be helpful to you

Also, I just noticed this thread: Lockdown 4 - let’s get around each other- it looks like there's a lot of people in that thread going through this too and you could find even more support there

@Aniela

Maybe now is a good time to decide to start spring cleaning or start a hobby or craft project. Then you could just be busy inside the house for a while and you can just kinda forget that you are in lockdown. I tend to isolate at home most of the time anyway so lockdown's are no real issue for me but I know that when it's against your will that it's more challenging. It's ok to go have a nap if you are bored but be careful that you don't start staying in bed 24/7. I wasted 2 years of my life doing that as I was avoiding the anxiety that house cleaning was bringing up. Hugs to you - please try and be kind to yourself

hi @Aniela just an idea maybe try enrolling in an online course maybe even a short course of a subject your interested in to keep busy while at home and help give some motivation or routine to try an activity, maybe also Art and Craft as someone else suggested,do self care like maybe treat yourself to your favourite toiletries and have a pamper day at home, maybe order your favourite takeaway or snack food and watch a series youve been meaning to see, maybe Journal about your experience of lockdown or look through family photos, start a scrapbook or do some gardening if thats your thing,Ive noticed that decluttering the house room by room has helped to keep me busy or you could sort through your wardrobe maybe think of things that could be donated to chariy if theres clothes you have that you just dont wear anymore, also lots of people get into cooking or baking maybe look up new recipes to try and bake cakes or cook a new favourite meal for yourself, definetly sleep and rest but not all the time, and most important stay in contact with friends or family or here on the forums,I have had to talk to lifeline at times to just be able to sleep at night. Stay Strong

Hi @Aniela ,

Greetings from Melbourne! I hope you are well.

This is nothing compared to last year's 3x long term lockdowns extending months.

No one knows how we all survived, but hey, we made it half year through 2021 and this is the third of 1 week lockdown we have this year.

I wouldn't bother with air travels this year honestly, just opt for regional travels as they were offering coupons previously. I understand many have families to visit interstate, but it isn't going to be easy. Plus there's a long queue for the vaccine.

I missed the gym most as the rainy season is here and we can't go out for exercise as it's wet. I am just getting used to holing up at home and mixing with the neighbours chatting about covid update. Probably looking forward to planning something new to refresh my life this weekend.

Get a mate to do those activities, perhaps you will keep to schedule and it will be more fun. You know, like a gym buddy.

Take care and stay safe. Happy lockdown.
