Hi @lostinspace. It sounds like this situation with your partner is causing you great distress (as I imagine it would for almost everyone). Do you see a psychologist or counsellor at all? Perhaps you could invest in some joint counselling for the both of you? I've had couples counselling in the past and found it beneficial.

I hope everything works out for you.

Re: comfused

hey,

Such diagnosis isn't done lightly. I agree you should seek out some help....for yourself and with your partner. It's important that your partner realises that you suffer from a medical condition with symptoms that can be crippling in moments so education is also important.

Depression and bpd are very real things. Whilst their cause is still unknown they are getting better treatments all the time and knowledge is increasing as well. There's plenty of help out there and asking for it isn't a bad thing.

It's important that you realise that it's not your fault. It's faulty brain chemistry from what is most likely genetic triggers. Clinical depression isn't improved by feeling better. It's usually helped by medications and it's much like things like diabieties. You need medications like a diabetic needs them.

Hi @lostinspace

It sounds like a difficult situation and it seems your partner hasn’t been very supportive. As @rogueone pointed out, it’s important for your partner to understand what is going on for you. Perhaps the reason she is not so supportive and thinks you should be over it, is that she doesn’t know a lot about mental illness. Helping her to learn more might help her support you. I don’t know. What do you think?

I also just want to add that medication is helpful for lots of people but it’s not always the answer for everyone; and it’s certainly not the only option for treatment. Borderline personality disorder is usually not something that can be treated with medication, although medication might help with the depression and anxiety. There are psychological treatments such as dialectical behavioural therapy that often help with borderline personality disorder. Do you have support at the moment?

hi,

My bad. Assumed it was Bi polar rather than Borderline. Been a while since i've been on message boards and need to reeducate myself! Apologies. Some good advice there from the mod!
