Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

@bipolarbunny No I haven't seen my GP there isn't anything she can do for me. I am trying not to take any medication and haven't for a year now. The clinic said that because of my lack of trust/aspects of paranoia I am not suitable for therapy. I disagree with this. Yes I do lack trust in people but I did get on with both my clinical Psychologist and case manager....but I asked for a more supportive positive therapy and not focusing on constant negatives as this was making me feel so worthless and I didn't understand my conditions or understand what symptoms belonged to which diagnosis. It was also the not knowing from week to week what I was going to face was very unsettling for me. I suffer with severe panic attacks with medical appts. Didn't matter how hard it was for me each week I still wanted to learn and understand but my questioning/requesting was my undoing. All this talk of "we are here for you, to support you" was if you do as we say your welcome if not gone the next appt.

so I am on my own. My own doing. My problem. I accept that. But I struggle, have feelings of needing help. Feeling helpless desperate but it passes. Just have to come off from here when I get bad can't handle anything negative, so at least I have some where to come back to and not have all doors closed on me.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

@Former-Member That's insane that they would tell you, you aren't suitable for therapy because you have a lack of trust/aspects of paranoia. I mean what the hell is therapy for if it's not to help us with these types of issues?! Geez I have a severe distrust of people, am paranoid to the point some days it borders on delusion and it's been therapy that has helped me work through all that.
The fact they won't help you cause you don't fit their criteria is disgusting!

I know you are trying to do things on your own and it sounds like this clinic has burned you badly, but is there any chance you'd consider trying again? A new mental health plan for a new psychologist? With Telehealth now, you can seek help outside your immediate vicinity from the comfort of your home too. That way you can deal with your fear of attending in person. Maybe you can find one that specialises in a positive psychology approach?

My therapist, aka Jeff the rockstar, is a clinical psychologist and he asks the hard questions but he also practises positive psychology and even in our hardest sessions, I still come out feeling empowered. I feel completely blessed to have found him, cause I went through a few lemons over the course of a decade too. But yeah he has just completely changed my outlook and helped me see a future where there wasn't any.
I just know you'd find a good one eventually if you persevered. If that is what you want. xx

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Thinking of you @Former-Member and deeply sympathising.

Trust is tricky. Paranoia, fearing rejection, feeling rejected, repeat... another set of cycles. I don't know if that's from BD or another diagnosis (I've had others) but separating the diagnoses seems reductionist to me. It would be nice to be accepted and respected as our complex intersectional selves.

So glad you're keeping this door open.

Love, Dimity.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Thank you for your compassion @bipolarbunny @Dimity

re Telehealth... at the start of Covid the clinic stopped all appointments at the clinic. So we had phone appt. Over the phone I heard the door closing twice and talking. When I asked about this I was told that colleagues need use that room (which has to be booked in advance) to use the phone for contacting the emergencies also said it was okay as 'they were used to confidentiality conversations' I felt shocked, a joke and disrespected. Seriously, they can't use any other office or the mobile phones they are given for clinic work! Told I am very sensitive! so I suppose I got a black mark against me for that. I couldn't do these anymore as it triggered my paranoia so was allowed to go to the clinic.

I don't have the mental strength to ask the GP I don't have a connection with her she wants me and probably others too in and out. I don't have the trust anymore in psychologist. I did try. Yes @bipolarbunny too burnt.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Hello @Former-Member I'm sorry your clinic was so remiss - privacy and confidentiality are foundational. I'm shocked that consultations were given in a transit zone with others coming and going.

I like your pseudonym and feel it must signify some deep-seated optimism and resilience that will carry you through. Perhaps there's another GP in your area you can try. It's not always easy to make a connection, it took me 2 or 3 years after my trusted GP unexpectedly retired to find another I felt comfortable with.

I start telehealth psychology appointments in a few weeks and hope there's no issues. Like you I feel a bit fragile but have to hope for the best.

Onward and upward.

Cheers, Dimity.
