Hi to all here @bipolarbunny @frog @rivergal @Dimity @Shaz51 @Appleblossom @Anastasia @Mazarita @greenpea @HenryX and if I've missed anyone I'm sorry. I haven't been here for several weeks but I do follow along at times and really like seeing all the support and relationships in this thread.
I have bipolar 1, was diagnosed at 46 (now 58 this weekend) and am happy to say I've been relatively stable for the last couple of years. On a cocktail of meds (from psychiatrist I've been seeing for 4 years now), some with side effects, but that's the price I pay for the peace I didn't have for decades. Also have a great relationship with my psychologist who I've also seen for 4 years.
The reason I've not been here recently is I became overcome with NDIS business since March some time. Quite obsessed with preparing for a plan review and completely pre-occupied with 'what if' thinking. I had re-visited every page of a roughly foot high pile of documents that weren't filed systematically. Thank goodness I've been able to put it to rest the last couple of days after making a big decision to request my current plan be extended rather than having to have a planning review meeting. And being approved.
As I also have complex and chronic PTSD and the 2 conditions impact on each other, having support workers and funds for some activities has changed my life. I still am agoraphobic and socially phobic, but I'm able to get out and about with help. So much better than the isolation I experienced for decades before. And with the help of my team I am also now living independently after a few years in a cabin in my brother's back yard, almost totally dependent on him and his partner.
Not sure why I'm rambling here but I guess I wanted to introduce myself properly to those of you who've reached out and those I don't know yet. I've been around the forums since 2014 and was a community guide last year. And I've been around the traps a bit in offline life too, to say the least! I also use a wellness recovery action plan and daily charts about meds, moods, sleep etc which help me self-monitor and easily able to see when things are changing in a problematic way.
If ever I can answer a question or help with anything please don't hesitate to ask me (just tag me). When I'm not having a hectic time offline I'll do my best to answer. And I hope to be here more often now that things are settling down.
For those who do know me - I still don't have a start date for my writing residency and am beyond frustration about it, rather just disappointed and not expecting it to come together. Faint hopes of being pleasantly surprised at some stage. And I should be starting a DBT group day program course some time in June.
I think this thread is really important and am glad to see you all connecting here.
Take care all, Eth
