Constantly feeling judged

Constantly feeling judged

Does anybody feel as though they are constantly being judged. It doesn't matter where you go, people are so cruel! Mental illness is still misunderstood by a lot of people who know nothing about it. We have come some ways I know but is there ever going to be a time when people can just accept us for who we are and not what they expect us to be? I would appreciate any comments.

Re: Constantly feeling judged

I have dealt with being judged both by church goers and committed atheists .. so that one day I quipped to the priest ... they are all as bad as each other .. he laughed and knew what I meant.

People do make judgements .. that is something that I am eventually coming to terms with, even if those judgements are superficial, unkind, not fair etc ...

Some groups of people have better cultures than others .. and I am not talking specific religions or ethnicity ... it is the way of the world ... footballers hang out with each other differently to science boffins or musos.

We do have some choices about what we do and where we go and who we associate with .. but there are also many limits.

Re: Constantly feeling judged

@Appleblossom. Being judged by church goers, wow. I have found the most judgemental people seem to be those who call themselves 'Christians'. I have found less judgement in prostitutes and non-religious groups. The 'coloured' races are not as biased as non-coloureds. There is good and bad in all people, yes, but the most judgements come from those who consider themselves 'above' other 'ordinary' people. People who are Gay seldom criticize those who are not Gay. Perhaps judgement is brought about by the stigma attached to fear of becoming one of 'those', whoever 'those' are. The church I used to attend seem to believe they have the right to criticize 'gays', and people with drink/drug problems, and prostitutes. I would rather be seen with a Gay, or a prostitute than someone who believes themselves 'superior' to me. Substance abuse scares me because of the often violent nature attached to the problem. But a Gay or a prostitute, would not concern me as they are still people with feelings. Who am I to say they're 'wrong' for their chosen life style. To them, they're not wrong, they have an alternate life style, but to them it's not wrong, it's their choice.

Everybody gets looked at funny every now and again i think and you just have to take pride in yourself regardless of mental illness and medication.
