Self help books

Self help books

Hi im wondering if anyone wants to share any books they have found helped them in their struggles or that they found inspirational?
I thought we may be able to help each other out with some interesting reading material.
One of my favourites is Russ Harris' "The Happiness Trap".

Re: Self help books

A lot of my favourite selfhelp books are old ... include various body therapies like primal and psychodrama personal development. Like many my age I looked into yoga and buddhism but the one I remember had a catchy title like ..

"If you meet the Buddha on the road, K ill Him" I guess it was talking about the human tendency to be a seeker and a soul searcher but that we also need to develop self-reliance.

I like the sound of the new ones.

Re: Self help books

Hi @Princessmolly,

Great idea for a thread! There's so many good books that are out there but sometimes I find the self-help section simply overwhelming because there's so many things I want to read about!

This is not strictly "self help" I suppose, but one of my all time favourites is "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" by Shunryu Suzuki - always helps me put things in perspective. Another favourite of mine is Victor Frankl's "Man's Search For Meaning". Oh and also, Eric Fromm's "The Art of Loving". My faves tend to be oldies too it seems @Appleblossom!

"The Heart of the Buddha's Teachings" by Thich Nhat Hanh (or anything by him for that matter) is also a great read if you're interested in something with a Buddist flavour. I feel he writes with a clarity and compassion I've not found in many authors.

Thanks for the post @Princessmolly!

All the best,
supernova.
