WHAT CAN YOU DO?

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

I HAVE BEEN THROUGH EVERYTHING. OTHER FORUMS, CBT.

I HAVE MONTHLY COUNSELING SESSIONS ON A MENTAL HEALTH PLAN THAT GIVES ME 10 FREE SESSIONS A YEAR. I WOULD LIKE MORE BUT BEING UNEMPLOYED CANNOT AFFORD THEM.

MY STRESSORS ARE MULTIPLE BUT MAINLY CAUSED BY BETRAYAL OF FEMALES. AS A RESULT I AM A MESS. I CANNOT TURNOFF ALL THE CONSTANT REPLAYS IN MY MIND NO MATTER WHAT I DO. SEEING IMAGES OF WOMEN WHO RESEMBLE THOSE WHO HAVE WRONGED ME SET THINGS OFF. SIMILAR VOICES, BEHAVIOURS ALSO BRING BACK THE MEMORIES. I PACE ABOUT AS I CANNOT SIT STILL AND THAT AGGRAVATES MY ARTHRITIS (ITS IN ALL MY JOINTS) WHICH CAUSES PAIN. MY DR WILL NOT PRESCRIBE MORE PAIN KILLERS SO NOT ONLY IS MY MIND DESTROYING ME BUT I AM IN CONSTANT PAIN. I AM UGLY AND WHEN I DO GO OUT PEOPLE STARE AND PULL FACES LIKE WHEN YOU ARE SCARED, SOME MOTHERS PULL THEIR CHILDREN AWAY LIKE THEY ARE PROTECTING THEM FROM A BEAST. OTHER PEOPLE CAST DISGUSTING COMMENTS. I WALK WITH MY HEAD DOWN SO I DONT SEE THESE REACTIONS.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE THOUGHTS AND CONSTANT REPLAYS GO AWAY?

HELP

Re: WHAT CAN YOU DO?

@CamelsBackBroke : It sounds like you are having a rough time of things lately. Have you thought about talking to your counsellor to see if they can see yo on a reduced rate (my old psychologist bulk billed because I had a health care card) or perhaps seeking counselling from a community service like a neighbourhood centre or church? Sometimes organisations such as Anglicare, Centacare and the like offer free counselling if you are on a low income.

Are you able to ask your GP for a referral to a pain specialist at all for management of your arthritis? It sounds quite debilitating.

Re: WHAT CAN YOU DO?

I didn't see that post, its tucked away under 'something's not right. Perhaps newcomers need their own gateway into the forums. So they don't get lost downstream.

How do we stop the thoughts??? Short answer - we can't. That's what brains do. But We have to train them, sift them, replace them, renew them. Plant strong thoughts that repel the weeds. Not that you're always in your head, use your five sensors to NOTICE & magnify the good things that feed the soul, & take it in. Breathe deep & Smile. Feed your mind & spitit good things. And watch what comes out of your mouth, the company you keep & what goes in. I google a positive something every day, read the quotes, view the images & take in wholesome things. And, be kind, to yourself.

Re: WHAT CAN YOU DO?

On these forums we see the soul, not the body. Come here for a break from all that. But I understand you have to get out the anger & frustration, that emotional pain. Try journalling it out too, then burning it goodbye. This isn't happening because you are a bad person. Its happening because we live in a broken world & some absorb the brokenness more than others. Like fluride to teeth, let's see if we can strengthen your soul to stop it getting in. Take heart. I hear you. Here's my friendly little owl to make you smile (trying to figure out how to make his mouth smile but I still like him 🙂

Re: WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Hello @CamelsBackBroke

Sorry to read that you have been so hurt - had your trust betrayed. I feel for you and want you to know that you are not alone in what you have and are going through.

And the financial hardship; living in constant pain all takes its toll. You are under enormous stress - I hear you and yes it's hard and can be lonely.

I also understand the constant negative thoughts and replays/flashbacks. How do you help control them - I find by putting my mind on a different focus/goals/purpose/interests and keeping my body and mind active. If we allow our minds to dwell and have too much time on our hands - depression/anxiety gets worse.

So I have to wipe the dust off my shoes, move forward and try not to look back. And sit and really ask myself "what really matters to me" - then set plans to move towards it. It's not what we look like my friend that matters in the end - it's who we are. And protecting ourselves from those who would use and abuse us by valuing that person - those who are genuine and matter will love us for who we are. And they will come into our life's at that point when we are mentally, emotionally and spiritually ready. It's looking within - not without.

I hope this helps a little as it is given with the best of intentions and care. I hope you find inner comfort soon ad be ki d to yourself - letting the anger go. Your psych was wrong.

Re: WHAT CAN YOU DO?

@CamelsBackBroke. What about asking your gp for a psychiatrist referral. Get an evaluation done. See if any medications may help settle your mind for a while.
Are you sleeping? Or are the negative self talk always chattering? My psychiatrist gave me sleeping tablets because my mind wouldn't shut up and it wasn't getting any sleep so I couldn't focus on learning new coping techniques. Once I started on the sleeping tablets and got proper restful sleep - my psychologist and I could work through my triggers, my pain etc.
Your brain is tired. It's not getting a rest. Talk to your gp. Ask for a psychiatrist referral.
all the best
