Disturbing thoughts

Disturbing thoughts

Hey! I get really disturbing thoughts of being hurt and killed and also my partner being hurt or killed. Tonight he has gone out to help a man out but i cant stop thinking what if the man has set him up to harm him or worse. I get disturbing thoughts of many people breaking into my home and harming us in really disturbing ways. I cant stop myself from these thoughts.

Re: Disturbing thoughts

Hi Again Miss_S. Some of the disturbing thoughts you're experiencing are possibly due to your 'voice' situation. I do understand however your thoughts and fears are very real. The man your partner is helping, how does he know him, is he a work colleague? If he is well known to your partner, I think your partner would be pretty safe. When your partner goes somewhere you're not happy about, perhaps it might be an idea for you to mention this to him before he goes. Ask him to call you as he's returning home to let you know everything is alright. Try and get to know some of his friends so you won't feel quite so uneasy. Make sure you are locked in, but have a safety escape plan in case. I would also talk to your partner and tell him your fears for your own safety when you're alone. My ex was a prison officer, he worked 12 hour shifts plus o/time frequently. I was often alone for several days and nights, so I do understand your fears. I would leave the t.v on 24/7 as the noise would help overcome my loneliness. Also having the t.v on was helping as far as anyone passing would see. I actually learnt self-defence which helped my confidence immensely.

Hi @Miss_S,

Welcome to the Forums

It’s so hard when unpleasant thoughts pop into our minds and sometimes trying not to think about it just seems to make it more present. Is there anything that helps keep your mind elsewhere?

From your other posts, I think you are seeing a psychiatrist. Have you talked to them about helpful strategies for managing the thoughts?
