Love sick adding to an already sick and sorry mind

Love sick adding to an already sick and sorry mind

Hi guys,
I was diagnosed with MDD and general anxiety disorder about 6 months after my father and brother died 5 years ago. I have since lost my job and struggled to find a new one/struggled to find anyone that will hire me. My boyfriend kept saying i obviously wasn't looking hard enough, or trying properly. But I was. He has since moved back to Ireland and said he wanted me to move over there to be with him. He drinks a lot, and since he's been back in Ireland I've noticed how much more often he gets absolutely trollied and will call and pick a fight with me, or not even pick a fight, just call and tell me I'm useless and pathetic. When I confront him about his cruel behaviour when he's sober he just dismisses it as 'being a goose'. He tells me not to bring it up again and stop 'bringing up the past' which is so unfair because that's all he ever does is bring up the past and throw my mistakes in my face. I feel like I will never be seen by him as an equal, like he will always look down on me, but I can't seem to shake how much I also love this man, and how much I am seriously considering moving to Ireland, despite every single instinct I have telling me I should know better and that it will be a disaster. So I feel kinda stuck in no-mans land, I'm here, missing him like crazy, despite feeling even sadder when I do hear from him. Anyone have any tips on what I should do? Should I cut contact with him for awhile?

Hi @Cathtastrophe8

I think cutting ties for a while is a good idea .... sounds like you're still struggling with grief, and this guy is not supporting your self-esteem at all. Moving to Ireland now would be jumping out of the fryingpan and into the fire .... you would be completely dependent on him and have nowhere to go if things were not good once you got there ... and there is nothing to suggest they would be.

It seems like you have a need for attention that is strong enough to accept negative attention over no attention .... but you can do better than that .... and it starts by believing that you are worth better than that.

This guy is being emotionally abusive when intoxicated, and seems intoxicated often enough for this to be a real problem. You don't need to be in the middle of that mess.

Cutting ties will show you his reaction to that .... which is likely to be very revealing in itself .... and it will give you some perspective that you don't have at the moment.

You are as important as anyone else in your life. Make sure you are looking after you !!

@Cathtastrophe8, I totally agree with everything @Faith-and-Hope has said and feel so sorry that you are going through this. A man like that is a coming tsunami of future grief. Please don't go to Ireland where you will be isolated with him and no-where to turn. I speak from experience of an abusive relationship in the past. As painful as it is right now to have to be alone, it's better than what is likely to come of continuing to have contact with this man. But, regardless of the choices you make, there will be support here for you, so keep posting and letting us know how you are going with things. Kindest wishes.

@Cathtastrophe8. I feel the same as the others. Now is not the time for you to be making such a dramatic move.
I understand that you love this man. But just because you love them, doesn't mean it's a healthy relationship. He keeps putting you down. That doesn't sound like love to me. That sounds like abuse. & that is not healthy.
It might be time to focus on you and your health and learning to love yourself.
You deserve far better
