How do I know when I find a good mental health GP & when to change?

How do I know when I find a good mental health GP & when to change?

How do I know when I've found a good GP that specialises in mental health please? The past 2 I've had have just been useless, just say "speak to your Psychiatrist and get him to prescribe your meds for you", they just don't help so I haven't seen my GP or spoken to her on the phone since the clinic's doing that for months because I just feel like I'm wasting my time.

What do I look for with good GPs please? I have to change when I turn 21 anyway (I'm 20 now) because this GP only sees patients under 21.

I have a few male GPs who specialise in mental health in mind. Any help and advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Hopefully the clinic that you go to has a website that tells you want each doctor specializes in. Make sure that who ever you choose ticks either all or most of what you are looking for. If you have other clinics near you check their websites also. After that it is just hit or miss.

It took me a longtime to find a good clinic but a friend recommended one and I love it!

They do have that on the website but it just seems like I can't find a helpful GP @Blep

For me it took a long time to find a good GP @Former-Member.

I'm sorry I can't give any better advice. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help 🙂

I just did a quick Google search and found this site

https://www.ratemds.com/best-doctors/?province=vic

Even though they may have a high rating you may not connect with them on a personal level

my suggestion is not a simple one unfortunately - but in my experience it is trial and error. meeting with them and chatting. getting a vibe, yes if the websites lists their interests that's definately helpful.

@Blep just looked up that website but it only comes up for certain suburbs, not anywhere near where I live

Oh that is a bummer @Former-Member. If you Google along the lines of "rate my gp" there are a few different ones 😊
