Something’s not right

Spat the dummy big time

Spat the dummy big time

So cancelled my appointments with my psychologist and psychiatrist. Why you may ask. Well ive had enough. Im tired of all the talking. Im tired of trying to make sense of it all. Im tired of trying to make changes. Im tired of trying to get though a day with some normality. Im tired of putting on a front that im ok. I am oh so tired!

I cried for about an hour today. Something that hasnt happened in a very long time.maybe that has relieved some of the pressure.

My psychologist rang me to make sure i was ok. Im not suicidal, just so very tired of the ongoing struggle. I dont feel my psychiatrist can help. I dont feel its depression. And i dont want to go into hospital. I dont know shat the answer is if indeed there is one.

Maybe i am just feeling sorry for myself. This seems to hapen every few months to varying degrees.

So here i again. There are no magic answers.

I’m sorry to hear how you’re feeling today @Chris. I think looking after our mental health can sometimes feel like we are just pouring out words and emotions and nothing is changing, which can feel like a big waste of time. But then there are times when, unexpectedly, the hard work pays off either in a big or a small way and we remember why we keep trying.

I think it can be a bit like growing a garden over winter. It seems like nothing is happening, despite all our watering and weeding. Then suddenly there’s a bit of sunshine and things begin to thrive. Perhaps that light is just round the corner for you. I hope you can find some energy to keep persevering, despite the tiredness.

It looks like you have detected a pattern with this happening every few months. How have things gone in the past when these feelings have come up?

Re: Spat the dummy big time

know how you feel @Chris have been spitting the dummy to varying degrees for a long time and then I feel better because I know something is not right and I either can't put it into words or just can't see it. I think it shows strength spitting the dummy sometimes as long as I don't hurt myself or others. then I come to the conclusion that my doctors are doing their best they can to help me and then I try to get more involved by asking them directly what they want me to do to help myself. keep fighting it is worth it

Re: Spat the dummy big time

@Chris. I'm sorry to hear that today has been so hard for you.
It is so hard to move along when you feel you are not getting anywhere through talking.
Can I ask you Chris, are you on any medication? Is there a particular reason you don't want to go to hospital?
My recent experience has been 2 plus years of depression and anxiety. Early this year I started getting worse. Not wanting or able to get out of bed. Nothing but negative self talk going round and round in my head. So much that I was not sleeping properly - sleeping too much or too little, so that I wasn't getting a deep restful sleep. This of course led to memory problems. Not being able to concentrate on anything. And it continued like this until suddenly I was having some very scary suicidal thoughts.
I booked myself into The Melbourne Clinic & stayed for 26 days. Best decision ever. It has been 7 weeks & 5 days since I went to hospital, & those negative voices have gone (for the most part). I'm no longer suicidal. I'm growing stronged every day and I can see myself getting a job before the year is out.
I know you say you are not suicidal, but I'm worried that if you don't get help, that your thoughts might go that way.
I'm glad your psychologist called to check up on you.
I hope that you get a restful sleep tonight & that tomorrow will be easier for you.
Please write back and let us know how things are. This is a safe & non judgemental forum to write to.
All the best

Re: Spat the dummy big time

Hope you are better now @ChrisMaybe every now and then we need to have a good solid cry.

I dont cry as often in the last 7 years. It has slowed down to a few times per year when something triggers me. If I have time available I just let my tears and distress run their full course. I do feel better after it. It doesnt hurt others to have a cry type of spit the dummy ... and somehow keeps us in touch with a whole range of feelings.

Words are part of the problem, may be part of the cure, but there is definitely a huge part of us that is pre or non verbal.

I am not sure what your hospital options are, but take care and respect your feelings.

Re: Spat the dummy big time

I was in hospital in December last year for a medication change. It was ok. My psychiatrist told me i have to stop being so stoic. It feel like failure to be in hospital. And attention seeking.. i dont feel they can do anything for me, because its all in my head. I start to become aware of something new and its painful, overwhelming, crushing.i know i have to face it, put i seem to panic over it, and pull away from the very people who can help me. This has hapened many times. It turns self destructive. Its extremely painful.

I feel dambed if i do and dambed if i dont, and all the time trying not to let this show through.

So i dont know where to go from here.

Re: Spat the dummy big time

@Chris know where you are at moment we want to hold in our emotions in, I know for me I do because they are so strong and overwhelming, some pass some do not I know some people who write it down and it helps some, but lately I have been holding it all in tried writing it down but I ended up throwing the book across the room(ha Ha) so I am trying meditation with some success and trying to focus on feeling better work in progress because the world just keeps going and I feel left out and a loser. but I've been here before and I know how painful it is but something inside me says I'm going to beat this bastard ( sorry about the swearing and I hope you are not offended)

Re: Spat the dummy big time

@Chris. You are not the obly one to wish it would all just heal itself or go away. Unfortunately, we have to go on the journey to get better.
I have found doing simple breathing exercises, just breathing in and breathing out and focusing on it. Morning and night. Then when emotions hit and they are so painful, I'm able to bring myself back to a semi calm state. Then that issue is discussed with my psychologist.
I find it hard to work through these feelings / emotions on my own. I prefer to do it with my psychologist where I feel safer. Also we only work on 1 emotion / event at a time. Otherwise I'm overwhelmed.
You are strong inside - you want 'to beat this bastard' & you will. Today is not the day. Today is the day you rest and self care.
