Elections

Elections

Just yesterday I heard on the radio that our current PRemier in NSW has been working hard at stopping attempts to reduce the price of energy so that the electricity, thyanks to our Premiere , will increase.

After hearing this I awill definitely not be voting Liberal. All they seem to do is increase prices and cut services. I mean who votes for such government?

Re: Elections

Not me!! I would never vote Liberal. They say they won't cut finding to Medicare, but everyone knows that once they get back in, they will cut finding to public health for sure. It's obvious.

Sadly, I think the Liberals will probably win this time around.

I voted for the Greens, even though I don't support all their policies. I also voted for the Animal Justice party and the Drug Reform group.

I hope to see an end to battery chickens in the lifetime! It is such a cruel practice and should have been banned ages ago.

And I believe that people who are terminally ill or who have uncontrolled pain should be able to have free access to as much marijuana as they like, and that medicare should cover the complete cost.

My little rant of the day.

Re: Elections

Absolutely agree @Sahara,

the Liberal ideology is much outdated today. I cannot believe that people still vote for an idea that does not work.

Yes Labour has its problems but they are much better than Liberals who can only cut and increase the price of everything. This tends to lead to recessions and a very weak economy.

I think it's amusing how excited the journalists get over elections. I'm watching the ABC... polls haven't even closed yet but they have a clock counting off the seconds and they're all having the greatest time, with reporters all over the place and hanging graphics and so much drama. It's really kind of funny.

Re: Elections

Had so much anxiety about researching the minor parties before the election... I found a site called 'donkey votie' that gave a list of the party websites, with a news article and a wikipedia article, and it was a big help.

Re: Elections

I love the chance to vote. I have a friend who arrived in Australia as a kid & she doesn't vote. I tell her - no vote - no whinging.
I've never been a Liberal or Labor voter. I voted Greens this election as number 1 & gave my secondary votes to some minor parties who I like.
I think people are either an ECONOMIST tyoe voter - where their major concerns are the economy and money first. These would be the Liberal voters.
Then you have the HUMANITIES type voter - those whose major concerns are the people (this includes animals & the environment). These types are more likely to vote Greens or a small party - with most of these preferences giing to Labor.
It doesn't matter which one people fall into. It primarily comes down to their values.
What do others think about this.

Re: Elections

I agree, @utopia,

most Liberal voters would only be interested in economics.... they promote tax cuts for the rich and everyone else can starve, for all they care.

I know quite a few liberal voters... the ones I know all went to private schools and would like to see the divide between rich and poor just get wider. They tend to disapprove of immigration, too.

Personally, I would hate to see the Liberals get in and introduce a co-payment to Medicare. It means that pensioners would not be able to afford to go to the doctor's and so they will wait to they are at death's door before they seek medical attention. It would be a choice between eating dinner that night or getting medical attention, because they could not afford both.

When they do finally present to a doctors office in dire need of help, they will be admitted to hospital and medicare will have to cover the bill for that! So it will cost every tax-payer more in the long run and our public hospital waiting lists will blow out, as all the beds will be taken up by sick pensioners.

We will wait eons for elective surgery and those on the waiting lists will chew up more of our health dollar with their constant visits to the doctor's office for more and more meds to tide them over.

I believe that the Liberals don't see the long term costs in trying to save a quick buck. Not to mention the astronomical human costs.

Re: Elections

husband and i had a good time voting yesterday, waited in line for half a hour, talking to people and patting dogs, went straight pass the sausage in bread stand (YUK). Moved up the line and to our surprise they were handing out free pizza slices. finally got in to polling booth. best election day ever.

@Sahara. I agree. Looking at the long tefm means we need to treat disease asap. Hopefully then it won't turn into something chronic. The same applies for mental health - the sooner we seek treatment & get the best treatment (not thd cheapest to save the government money). Then the sooner we are able to go back to work and live life fully. & less likely to havd relapses.
You can't have smart people if you don't spend the money on their education.
Yiu can't have a safe country when the legal system is sick. & you can't have a fair country if you don't look after the most vulnerable.
