Police guard to prevent suicide
Hi,
I have had many negative experiences with the police and the way they deal with my mental health crises. But it doesn't seem like I can escape them.
After I phoned a mental health line today and told them of my suicidal thoughts, they were concerned and phoned the police. Police phoned me saying that they were off duty and would not come see me. They told me if I was in crisis I had to get myself to hospital & if I refused to do that they would have to come get me for an emergency examination. I chose to take myself to hospital, thinking I was avoiding the police. But now they are going to admit me, I have been told that I will need to be under police guard. Not because I have done anything wrong, or am violent, but because I am extremely suicidal. I have previously tried to suicide in hospital, so they don't trust me alone at all & not enough nursing staff to watch me, so they get the Police!!!
I think them guarding me is likely to make me more suicidal than help keep me safe. I am really worried about how they are going to treat me & how I am going to react to them. I could just feel worse or I could get really agitated, upset or angry with them and it could get me into trouble with the police.
I wish they didn't have to come but was told there is no other options. I hope I survive the night.
