New Connections

New Connections

I'll be completely honest, this forum is extremly confusing to me. I've been dealing with depression and anxiety for a long time now and my biggest problem is I have no one to talk to that actually gets it. I love my husband and his response is "you just need get over it", and while he does understand that it's not that simple, he also doesn't.

What I really want is some friends, people who I can be me with and talk to about the anxiety attack the consumed my whole morning without a look of 'what's wrong with you'. You know?

I line just outside of Brisbane (Ipswich side) and I would love some face to face people to get to know, if there's any there 🙂 I suck at conversation and it would be great to have some people I could just be me with

Re: New Connections

Hi @WyldIce

Welcome to the forums!

Firstly, I just want to check to see if there's anything I can help with in regards to your use of the forums. You mentioned you're finding it extremely confusing. Let me know if there's anything specific I can help you out with. There's some information here on the forums for those who are new - perhaps you will find it helpful.

I totally understand wanting to be around people who understand. That's what many people come to these forums for. Even though we're not face to face, we share our experiences, get and give support and feel less alone.

The forums are anonymous, so unfortunately members won't be able to share their information with you in order to meet face to face. You can read more about the Community Guidelines here

I hope you find these forums helpful and can provide some of the connection you are looking for 🙂

Re: New Connections

Hello @WyldIce

Making connections is important .. but here it is just online ... though you may find some pointers for local groups etc.

In the meantime ... there are chatty threads ... like Friday Feast, Sunday Funday

You can reply to posts or you can start a topic of your own choosing.

I have found it helpful to read other people's stories and yes I have a real sense of friendship and family on the forums. Hope you find it worth while too.

Re: New Connections

Hi @WyldIce

I see it's been about a week since you joined and posted here - I'm new here too, although I've been involved with a different forum for quite some time.

I get exactly what you mean - most of the time I don't talk to people about what's going on because I know unless they've lived it they don't get it. And because of that - I realise that I don't get what lots of other people are going through either with their mental illnesses, but at least I hope I have learnt some compassion and non-judgemental attitudes through my own life experiences.

I have found having a mental health forum on which to talk to other sufferers to be absolutely invaluable - pure gold. Nobody is going to put us down or look at us askance when we say anything at all. Chances are somebody else has been through something very similar and can offer a friendly ear and maybe even share their own experience and learning. Some of the best conversations I've ever had about my mental health have been had on a forum - and I didn't have to travel to get there or pay a cent for it!

I encourage you to make good use of it. Be honest, there's no need to hold back for fear of what people think - nobody will think any less of you, and besides, it's anonymous - nobody knows who you really are. As much as I hear you that you crave face-to-face contact with others you can relate to - and that can be a wonderful thing - this is also really good in different ways. It's here 24x7, and even if individuals may come and go there will always be someone to walk with you.
