Stress

Stress

Life is so stressful and it really upsets me. I know that I should be doing more and be more manageable but I'm 90% a mess. It upsets me so much when I continually act out and don't look after myself. I'm in a stable place but I feel like I'm on the edge tonight.... How does everyone cope with that voice which tells you that you should be doing more.... You knows it true but you can't do it. Does this make sense???

Hi @BeachsideMUM

This makes perfect sense to me. I can understand exactly what you are saying. I haven't been great lately but I know that I just can't do everything my head tells me I should be doing. When I fall into a heap with crying, feeling sick in the stomach and more physical symptoms I know that my body is telling me to stop. Take a break, have a rest. I just can't do everything.

Can you take a break? Are you able to listen to some relaxing music to help you? I hope you managed to get some sleep last night.

Hope to chat again, take care

Re: Stress

I get really stressed too sometimes and think I should be doing more and getting my life together. It makes me feel very down about myself. I have found that going on a long walk really helps me - I'm talking 15 - 20kms through the city to the other side of town..... and then taking a bus back. That really really helps me.

If I'm feeling that way at night and I can't go on a big walk (because I don't walk at night) then I like to blog my feelings or even take a bath. Night is harder to manage than day for me.

Maybe I should get a treadmill so I can walk at night in my living room if I am stressed and upset. That might help.

Re: Stress

Hi @BeachsideMUM,

How are you tonight? I hope you're feeling better.

That pressure to do more can make us feel guilty, and create anxiety. I can really relate to this!

Be true to where you're at. If you feel like a mess, attempting to push through this can feel futile. Try to make space for feeling messy, and do what you need to do to refocus, and get to the heart of what is contributing to this. For me, when I start to feel all over the place and unable to focus, it usually means I'm worn out and tired. So I will give myself a day off. I find that having the one day off makes me more efficient the day after, rather than having two days off where I'm battling with myself.

Does that make sense? Can you give yourself some time off as @Mel3 @BlueBay have mentioned?

Re: Stress

That fully makes sense. I use to scream at myself for not being able to do more when I'm stressed or having a bad week.

I've had to re-teach myself that I'm not Xena. I had to teach my self not to be ashamed that I can't do a billion things. I've come to the realisation when I'm stressed or down I'm not going to be able to do everything but the things I do I do with 100%. Even though they are small I tell my self I've done a great job today in the state I am in. I've been the best me for the current situation I'm in. I don't judge myself on what I can normally do when I'm happy. I judge myself on my emotion.

Does that make sense?

Re: Stress

I know I've posted this quote elswhere tonight but I think it belongs here too.

"Let whatever you do today be enough. Let go of the judgement you have about what you should be or could be doing, and today, allow yourself to simply be. Comparing yourself and your journey may be habitual, but it gets you nowhere. It makes you feel worse and it keeps you stuck. So stop fixating on where everyone else is, and start giving yourself permission to be exactly where you are. Quiet the voice telling you to do more and be more, and trust that in this moment, who you are, where you are at, and what you are doing is enough. You will get to where you need to be in your own time. Until then, breathe. Breathe and be patient with yourself and your process. You are doing the best you can to cope and survive amid your struggles, and that’s all you can ask of yourself. It’s enough. You are enough."

— Daniell Koepke

What you can do is enough.

Take care.
