I think you said it ... both laughter and crying are often cleansing and releasing feelings. But not usually totally "on command" reactions. They are often involuntary. That is good in a way.
I used to cry too much ... it was cleansing but interfered with life a lot ... I still cry a bit .. teared u in choir on Sunday ... it got watery in the nose ... but not so much I had to leave ... probably a few noticed it .. I apologised to the lady next to me .. but she is friendly ... with a son who suffers from schozohrenia.. it was a clear trigger.. in that son hadnt shown up... but he did eventually.
Just becasue you arent crying as much doesnt mean that you dont have feelings ... you are just not triggering the crying hormones ... there is a concept that we go through times of "desolation and dryness" ... sometimes I find that helpful .. as I am quiet, even sad, but not rocked with emotion ... it is much more peaceful.
Laughter is another interesting one .. when I first started laughing ... late in life ... they were huge belly laughs ... a bit embarrassing ... man-like .. now they have settled a bit ... are more "lady-like" if that makes sense.
