HIDEY Holes

HIDEY Holes

As a kid I had to make sure that I had a safe place to escape to - incase we were invaded by Indians and their arrows.

Now why was this necessary?

I know as a kid, I had sleepovers at Grandpa's house. He would let me stay up and watch Cowboy and Indian movies. Every night I'd have a nightmare, that would end with me being shot in the back with an arrow.

Surely by this age I could distinguish movies from realities. Then why my need to have a safe hiding place where the 'Indians' couldn't reach me? What was I afraid of?

Hello @utopia

Thank you for sharing, I think this is a really interesting topic.

Children are so interesting with their development and because they are always learning and the world seems so big and unkown to them, they can find things very scary, not to mention having imaginations that can come up with scary stories.

I am not sure what exactly brought on your fears and nightmares, but it is a very normal thing for kids to feel scared at times, especially at night time when it is dark, and having a hidey hole is a clever way of dealing with it.

I think even as adults we feel scared and need a safe place to retreat to.

It is great you are able to remember that, what has brought this up for you?

@Former-Member - I just remembered where my place to go to, if the Indians attacked, was. I never used it. But even in my early teens I knew that was a safe and clever place to hide, where I wouldn't be found.

I just thought it odd thinking for a normal teenager, who knew there were no Indians. So was wondering if there was something else I might have needed to hide from. ??? Strange

@utopia@Former-Member When I was a child I used to hide under my doona. I would wrap my arms around my chest so tight and curl my knees up high.

I still do this now especially st night when it’s dark and quiet.

Coukd eadily go now and do it.
