How to keep motivated

How to keep motivated

Hi everyone

How do others keep motivated?

I have zero motivation to do anything at the moment. I struggle to get up in the morning to go to work, due to lack of sleep and motivation. I try to read a book but after a page or two I lose interest and need to do something differrent.

I seem to have no enjoyment in much these days. I work because I have to financially. Im just not happy with things at the moment. I don't know if I really know what I want in life anymore. I am dealing with a lot of stuff and its causing so much anxiety and my emotions are running crazy.

I have tried meditaiton using my phone but I can only do a minute or two as I again get unmotivated and get bored very easily.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I feel frustrated, angry, emotional and hurt.

I feel I need to run away, escape, run fast, hide and then be caught by someone who would care for me; support me and nurture me. Maybe this is my ;inner child' seeking love.

I don't know; i am so angry, i just want to scream

Hey @BlueBay

Scream if it helps get it out...

It sounds like you are going through a rough patch. Was there anything that triggered your sleep and motivation problems? Or did they just come out of the blue?

When I started having problems, social connections really helped me. Is there a close friend or family member you can talk to? Having a counsellor was my strategy as at the time I didn't want family or friends to know I was struggling. In hindsight this was my pride...I should have told my mum who had dealt with dad's issues and might have lent me a hand.

But yeah, don't bottle it up, 'love' doesn't have to be romantic love, it can come from getting support. Don't give up.

Thanks @BamBam

I don't really know; maybe its a combination of the fact that it was my dad's birthday this week and i didnt get to see him as he is not talking to me; maybe it's because i have been dissociating lately and again in session with my therpaist; i am totally exhausted, mentally drained and emotoinal.

I have a fantastic therapist and GP. I do not tell my husband much because our communication is not that great, he doesn't ask how my sessons are; i don't know. so much going on; need to sort our marriage out as well; everythign is just being affected and its all my fault - if i never remembered the sexual abuse of my childhood none of this would be happening now.

Im sorry if I sound a bit harsh; I find it hard to talk to close friends because i feel that they don't want to listen to me;

I'm glad you have a great therapist and GP team as they know your particular issues best and can guide you on how to deal with them. IMO these things take time, but it doesn't help when it feels like the floor is moving beneath you at the same time, right?

Maybe what might help is a moment of truth with a friend, maybe after a nice dinner out or something, where you can just offload your problems onto them. I used to enjoy things this back before illness and circumstances changed my social pyramid. So I suppose you don't have to listen to me 🙂

I was recently assigned a case worker from CatholicCare, and can tell her things that happen in between therapy sessions. Your GP should be able to refer you to something like this too.

Thanks @BamBam

I never heard of case managers with CatholicCare. Thank you, I will look it up and chat with my GP. I must admit my GP is happy for me to see him weekly for a catch up on how i am feeling, what is happening with me during my session with my therapist. He is happy for me to see him anytime, I am very lucky and appreciate the time he spends with me and how he understands mental illness.

Thank you for chatting with me; I really appreicate it. I am glad I have found this forum.

Hope you are doing okay.

Re: How to keep motivated

Zero motivation today. Day off from work and am doing nothing. Can't get motivated to start anything or even complete housework. So much to do but can't be bothered.

I wish I could have so much more motivatioin to do things at home; it frustrates me so much that I don't have the enthusiasm to do anything or the 'get up and go' attitude. I really think it's the depression and anxiety that is keeping me so down at the moment.

Not great today. 😞
