Dissociation

Dissociation

I'm currently experiencing some form of dissociation/derealisation/depersonalisation, I can't tell the difference but these are things my psychiatrist says I experience. I rarely feel like this. I feel absolutely insane, it's 2am and I can't calm down even after having anti-anxiety medication and everything is in fast forward, removed from reality and extremely full on and I don't know what to do. I don't have enough experience with this I usually experience depression and anxiety only with self harm and suicide attempts in my past. This isn't the first time I've had it but I'm freaking out. I've tried to distract myself and self soothe and it didn't help and I have no idea what to do. I really, really need help right now

Re: Dissociation

Hi @ClaireElle,

Dissociation can be scary the first time you realise it happens and there are different levels of dissociation.

I experience them all from feeling far away but still there to being a completely different person with no recollection of what they did when I come back to me.

Being in a dissociative state where it is hard to distinguish what is reality and what is not is one of the scariest states of dissociation. For me it is because I have trouble remembering if I really did something or not.

I know I is easier said then done but try some grounding techniques to calm your self and try keeping to a normal as possible routine.

Medication doesnt help me either with this. I have to keep myself calm.

I have anxiety, depression, CPTSD and DID, they all play on each other and despite having these for almost 15 years I still cant control any of it perfectly, it still gets out of hand
